Anti-depressants = emotionless?!
Question: Anti-depressants = emotionless!?
When you take anti-depressants I've heard that they can basically wipe all emotion from you!. Sure you won't feel depressed anymore but you won't feel happy either!. I've heard this being described as a "zombie-like" feeling!.

When antidepressants are the right medication and you are on the right one at the right dose, you feel a normal range of emotions!. When they are inappropriate, the wrong one for you or the wrong dosing, you may not feel like yourself in a number of ways!. This is part of the reason why therapy is the best first treatment to try!. It's also why working with the expert in these meds, a psychiatrist, is smarter than just seeing a GP!. Also, "zombie" often is less than adequately treated depression and not always the medicine!.Www@Answer-Health@Com
Everyone reacts differently to medications!.!.!.from zombie to almost no effect!. There are a number of anti-depressants so the doctor does have choices!. When I was not responding well to one, we would stop that one and try another!. When the medication was right for me, I had a full range of emotions and felt happier than I had in years!. Talk to your doctor, tell him everything that is happening on that medication!. Then you can find the right one!. If you need one at all! Sometimes talking with a therapist can control depression!.Www@Answer-Health@Com
Sometimes this 'zombie-like' feeling doesn't come from the anti depressants but comes from the depression that they are suffering from because it is easier not to think and feel numb than think and feel something so powerful you can only deal with it in a destructive way!. To be honest it all depends on the individual and if you are being described them there is no harm in trying!.Www@Answer-Health@Com
I've been on Prozac for 3 years and at first I did feel zombie-like and disconnected, but that was just the adjustment!. After a week or so I was fine and have had virtually no symptoms since then!. I used to say that I didn't want medication because I would be a zombie, but it's not true!. It made me a functional, happy person!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

They block various aspects of the synaptic transmission process in serotonin, norepinephrine and dopamine containing neurons in the brain!. This increases the levels of these neurotransmitters which stabilizes emotions!. People on an appropriate dose have a stable mood, not a lack of!.Www@Answer-Health@Com
they do not wipe all emotion!. they do more bad things then good!. they make you happy for about a few hours but afterwards you feel worse then you did before!. ie prozac!. being a 'shrink' as we are called, and also using them when i was a child!. trust me they do not make you emtionless, to be honest people on antidepressants are better of finding something they love!.!.!. and pretty much embracing themselvesWww@Answer-Health@Com
If you're not feeling anything on medication, you're on the wrong medication!. There are so many anti-depressants out there odds are good you'll be able to find one that works without dulling you down too much!. It can take a few tries to find that one, but once you do it's definitely worth it!.Www@Answer-Health@Com
I used to feel that way on every single anti-depressant I was ever on!. Alas, I went into the hospital and was came out prescribed on Paxil!. I am capable of feeling happy!. I have more energy, I'm sleeping better, and I'm not getting overly emotional!. =]Www@Answer-Health@Com
some anti-depressants can!. i was on one i can't remember the name of it that turned me violent towards others and extremely emotional!. i got off of it and put on something new and when that one didn't work i got put on Cymbalta and it's working great so far!.Www@Answer-Health@Com
Stay away from Lexapro!.!. man i'm telling everyone that!.!. seriously!.!. ihate that drug!.!. that drug made me and my friend serious zombies!.!. we both had doctors that prescribed us that!.!. I like wellbutrin!.!. i'm going on anti depressents again next week!.!. and i dont know what my dr is going to give me!.!. i hope to god its wellbutrin!.!. to awnser your question YES they do make you feel like a zombie!.!. but i agree w what some of the ppl here said!.!. if your feeling like a zombie then your overmedicated!.!. because not all the medications feel the same!.!. thats the hard part!.!. finding the one that works for you! I've been on antidepressants for 23 years and, believe me, I feel all sorts of things!. When you first start taking them, they may have a bit of a numbing effect, but if you are "zombie-like", you're OVER-medicated!.Www@Answer-Health@Com
