Obsessive behaviour...?!


Question: Obsessive behaviour!.!.!.!?
I don't no what to do, I have an essay (4000 words) due tomorrow and can't concentrate!. I obsessively tidy my room, until it's perfect, and then that just irritates me, so I mess it up again, and the cycle repeats!.!.!.!.

It's the first time that this has had a real effect on me (I'm a neat person, but usually not this weird) and I'm somewhat confused!. Can lack of sleep play a part in this!? I've not really slept much the past few days (my house has been kind of noisy)!. lol any excuses that I can use anyway!? Don't really think she'll buy "I was tidying my room"!.!.!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

That's not obsessive, that's called procrastination!.

You don't want to write the essay, you don't have any idea where to start and you haven't done any research!. You are worried you'll get a bad grade but you still don't want to put in the effort to do it!. You're sitting at your computer and instead of typing any words to count in your 4,000 word assignment you are typing into a box on Yahoo Answers to PROCRASTINATE!.

You would rather do just about anything than type this paper because you "know" you're going to get a bad grade anyway even if you do it now!.

Basically what you have to do is set a timer for 5 minutes!. In that time take a pen and one sheet of notebook paper and hand write any words that come to your mind!. Try to focus your words around the topic of your assignment, but even if unrelated words come to mind write them down!.

Take a break, get a drink, and go to the bathroom, but get to the next step within half an hour of the first!.

Next set the timer for 30 minutes!. In 30 minutes take the words you have written down and form them into an outline!. If you finish early you might even do some research!.!.!.

Take another short brake!.

Now with outline in hand set the timer for one hour and write your essay!. Treat this time limit as if you were sitting at a desk at school taking a test!.

Hopefully the timing will keep you focused on what you're doing and get you where you need to be!. Now that you have some words to work with go ahead and try to tidy your room, I'll bet you'll start to "obsess" over the details of your writing and that's good!. You really need to get out of the typical environment and the noise and buckle down adn do it!. If your school has a library go there, or a town library, another favorite spot of mine is a starbucks, barnes and noble type of location, just bring your laptop buy a coffee and set up shop!. When the space is not yours you will not feel compelled to clean it!. If this is not an option even trying another room in the house, wherever it is most quiet- a living room, basement ect!. Just switch it up and concentrate!. Don't let yourself clean while working- the more you feed into it the worse it will be- make yourself stop for 20 minutes and write- its near impossible, I understand but you can do it!. I used to get like that over writing essays because I felt they had to be perfect - like my whole being was going to be judged by this one essay - real black and white thinking!. Why not try to make a deal with yourself to write the intro tonight and make an essay plan for the remainder and take it in tomorrow and explain what you've been going through!. You're probably living the worst that can happen (no essay and a cleaning cycle that serves to keep you busy) so you've nothing to lose!. yeah a lack of sleep can definitely play a part in this!. the same thing has happened to me in the past!. the fact that you cant concentrate is also a sign of lack of sleep which is probably whats causing you to become easily distracted by the "mess" of your room!. you should try removing yourself from your room completely and doing the work somewhere else!. as long as you stay there you are probably going to have this problem!. also, you could try taking a 30 min nap!. these really re-charge you and if you do this plus go work in a different room this could help you!.!.!.!.!.good luck!Www@Answer-Health@Com

I completely understand what your going through!. My first year of college I went through the same thing!. I would put off and put off doing an essay,( not because I'm a procrastinator but I had a full schedule of classes that occupied a lot of time) until maybe the week before and then nonthing seems to go in my favor!.!.!.!.Just settle down take a nap, get in a quiet and neat area with your laptop and start from scratch until your done!.!.!.!.I'm sure everything will work out for you!.!.!.!.!.!.!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

Take a nap!. Lack of sleep can make this occur!. I have OCD and it actually will worsen significantly if I don't sleep!. I'm not saying that you have it, I'm just saying it sounds as though you should sleep!. You sound anxious and stressed!. After that, do the essay!. well you can say that youhave been really stressed out, not sleeping and this has driven you to obsessive behavior, so bad you're thinking you shoudl check with a psychologist!. ( sounds like ocd my friend)

but the best thing to be instead of making an excuse is to write the essay!. Its about 10 pm in UK, yes!? so you have al night to write it!. just start in on it, evne if it sucksWww@Answer-Health@Com

Sounds like an anxiety disorder!. People with OCD tend to obsessively do more than one action repeatedly!. It carries over into many parts of your daily routine, sometimes so extremely that you can't leave the house, get to appointments on time, etc!.Www@Answer-Health@Com
