Hi

The workers you mention are not all doctors, but specialists who can help people who suffer from mental ill health!.

The psychiatrist is the Dr who specialises in mental health and who can prescribe medication and treatment!.

A CPN is a Community Psychiatric Nurse who will be able to monitor medication and it's effectiveness and who will most likely see the patient on a more regular basis than the psychiatrist!.

An occupational therapist is a person who will help the patient to cope with daily living skills, they may help to encourage the person to participate in activities and get out and about!.

The psychologist is there to help with the thought processes of the patient and to work with them to better understand why their behaviour is related to how they think!.

Unfortunately there is no magic wand or instant cure for depression or other mental illness, it can take many years before a person begins to improve and start on the road to recovery!.

This does not necessarily make the patient unstable, yes the person is ill and needs help but it sounds as though she is getting the best treatment and help that is available!.

Hope this helps!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

She has obviously been very ill, but it is impossible to say how effective any treatment may have been from the information you have given!.

Drugs can greatly help some people with depression, but it can take a long time to find the correct drug and correct dosage!. Patient behaviour and environment also impacts heavily on the prognosis for depressive illness!.

If she has an anxiety disorder then that can potentially be recovered from completely!.

If she had a chronic neurological disorder then her condition is likely to be very fragile!. Her condition would be unlikely to change over the medium term!.

Different clincians will deal with different issues

Psychiastrists decide what drug treatment should be prescribed or wether there should be a hospital admission!.

CPN may monitor drug use, but mainly gives counselling or C!.B!.T!. cognitive behaviour!. CPNs are available around the clock for emergencies should she need help outside of hospital!.

Occupational Therapists deal with anxiety related issue!. Provide general information!. Help with accessing support groups, etc!.

Clearly she is very ill with depression, but there are a lot a causes and solutions available!.

One of the problems with the mental health service is it tends to focus on the symptoms but not the causes!.

If someone is not eating properly, getting little exercise, has no meaninful employment or is misusing drugs etc, then they will suffer depression regardless of what treatment is offered!.

Doctors don't like admitting mistakes and it may be that treatment may be making her condition worse!. It is always a good idea for patients or carers to keep some kind of diary, so that any trends can be spotted!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

You didn't sound specific enough, but from my guess, she's severely unstable!. I'm not a psychiatrist, but I do suffer from a mental illness, I only see one doctor and only on one medication!. So something at that magnitude, seeing 4 doctors would probably be like one of the worst form!. If she's been that way for 2 years, the medication she's on is probably not very effective!. It can take time to find a right medication cause everybody responds differently!. It also depends on her own effort and what she'll be willing to do to get better!. Best of luck!. :)Www@Answer-Health@Com

Medication and therapy are standard for a lot of mental illnesses including more minor cases!. That means the psychiatrist to prescribe antidepressants and the psychologist for therapy are appropriate treatment for depression and/or anxiety!. Occupational therapy may or may not be related!. In other words, can't answer based on the info you've given!.Www@Answer-Health@Com
