Question: What can i expect in a psychiatric hospital for paranoid schizophrenia!?
I was diagnosed with paranoid schizophrenia, and my doctor wants me to voluntarily admit to a psychiatric hospital, of which hi have an appointment at the end of next month for a psychiatrist and view of the facility!. He said that im a threat because of my delusions, and that worry's me that they will involuntarily keep me longer than i would like!. i want to go just for a little under a week, and will hopefully keep it that way, but what is it like in a psych hospital!? what can i expect!? they already told me what i cant bring, but i wanna know any other information about schedules and treatments and housing!. anything would be appreciated!. also im on messenger at xxslipknotfreak46 or aim at xslipknotfreak46 thanksWww@Answer-Health@Com

all hospitals have their differences, usually they'll wake you up in the morning for meds and breakfast and then groups!. They have groups pretty much all morning and afternoon!. they'll provide meals and depending on the hospital you'll be roomed up with anywhere from 1-4 or 5 other people, sometimes you'll get your own room!. Things are usually locked and there are staff working to watch you and they'll check on everyone a few times an hour!. you'll meet with a psychiatrist and social worker, sometimes a dietitian!. they'll put you on medication to stabilize you!. Again this all depends on the hospital and I'm not sure if hospitals where you are, are different than where I am!. As long as you cooperate and follow the rules, take your medication, participate in groups and stuff you shouldn't be there too long, I've known people to be inpatient anywhere from 24 hours to a few years, depending on the situation!. I used to work in an inpatient psych hospital!. The mainly will keep you long enough to get you stabilized on meds - at least 2 weeks!. If they think you are a threat to yourself or others they can detain you even if you were admitted voluntarily!. I have seen patients stay in the hospital for months (not to scare you, but just so you know)!.
Depending on the hospital, you will have group therapy sessions as well as individual therapy sessions with a doctor, and you will be evaluated to see how the medications are treating you!. Once you are stabilized they send you home!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

It will be difficult but stay strong and try to get through it! There will be a variety of people but if it helps it will be worth it, if you are not happy let the workers know!. But don't be agressive or rude!
Make sure you ALWAYS take your medication, as not taking it will make you a million times worse!.
For advice and info contact your local MIND charity or ask your doctor and social worker to refer you to your local mental health team, charities , housing association and for counselling!.

Well you should feel very brave at going in the first place!. Now I think you must accept that this is a place where you wont be in total control, so go with flow and let them help you!. A short time away will certainly help you see things differently, It will be a well organized rota for you with caring people who are there to help you!. I do believe that unless you have been Sectioned then you are free to leave at your own free will!. But in my opinion that would be silly and waste of time alround!.
