I have bipolar 2 and was but on SSRI (effexor and prozac) to name a couple!. THey would swing me into a manic phase, then I tried suicide and was given the anti-psychotic risperdol, only becasue my doctor thought if I was too tired I could hurt myself or anyone else, then I found a new doctor and was given depakote and serozone, now discontinuted!.!.!.I think cymbalta is a similar drug!.!.!.!.

That was the combo that did the trick for me, it was defined as the turning point in my recovery!. Also, O fiormly believe in therapy on top of medication, bipolar is a chemical problem, but we need to work on the behaviors, thoughts and patterns that it can bring on!.!.!.!.

Best of luck!.!.!.!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

I was diagnosed with Bipolar Disorder 2 four years ago, and what is working for me now is a combination of an anti-depressant/anti-anxiety medication (Lexapro 10 mg) and a mood stabilizer medication (Abilify 20 mg)!. I used to take Wellbutrin XL 300 mg, but it stopped working for me, so now I take Lexapro instead!. But I have been on Abilify for 4 years now, and it has helped with the mood swings at least!.

Good luck with your medications and finding the right one for you!. Do keep in mind that what may work for one person may not work for another!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

My son was diagnosed with bipolar I last September!. He was prescribed abilify, depakote, lithium, resperdal and invega, all of which had such debilitating side effects that he stopped taking all of them!. Then he was prescribed lamictal and he has been on the lamictal for about two months now and there are no side effects (for him that is)!. He seems to be fine!. As with everything, you have to trial and error to see which mix of meds is right for U!. Good luctk!. I wish you the very best of luck!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

I have Bipolar 2!. I take lamictal and have for about a year!. I also take zoloft to help with my lower mood swings, as well as either seroquel or valium for panic attacks as needed!. I honestly can't really tell if the lamictal has helped a great deal or not, but I have not noticed any side effects at all!. I do have a girl friend who started taking lamictal about the same time as I did!. Her mood swings were a lot more noticeable than mine, and she seems to be doing MUCH, much better!. My ups and downs aren't as hourly as some people, so I think that's why it's harder for me to tell if the lamictal is helping or not-- i tend to be manic for days at a time, then balanced, then depressed!. Does that make sense!? I do think I'm more balanced overall!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

I have Bi-Polar but am not sure whether it is 1 or 2!. I have been on many medications but the two that work wonders for me is Depakote ER 500 mg, once a day, and Lithobid or Lithium Carbonate 900 mg!. once daily!. Most all bi-polar meds will give you some unwanted side effects, that just comes with the territory!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

Have you talked to your doctor!? Make sure you have made a list of the side effects before your next appointment!. Sometimes a side effect will last only a few weeks so you will have to stick it out until your body adjusts!. Everyone's body is different, so someone who does well on Lithium may not do well on Abilify or Prozac!. Just be very clear with your doctor about what is going on!. If you feel you can't talk to your doctor then get a new one!. Good Luck!Www@Answer-Health@Com
