one of my best friends has bipolar and sometimes she's great, the most friendlies person in the world, other times she can be awful, so mean and insensitive!. she jumps from one topic to the next and can't sit still, if she's manic she doesn't make much sense and tells everyone everything about her life!. she jumps from relationship to relationship!. she can be violent and doesn't easily control her temper!. she spends money like crazy!. sometimes she gets so depressed she won't get out of bed for days!. she goes from doing well, working, cleaning, socializing, to the mania where she'll work a bunch of jobs for a lot of hours, buying all sorts of stuff she doesn't need, not sleeping and then bam, she'll quit her job(s), stop hanging out, sleep for days, not clean her house!. it's tough but I love her and have been friends for so long that i can tell when it's really the bipolar talking and not her!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

My husband is bipolar!. We've been married almost 9 years now!. My husband is on disability for it, and it can be really difficult for him!. But here it goes - the way most people are!.

First, if he is manic he will be really hyper, could be mean and have inflated ideas about life and himself!. He could go on very little sleep for what seems like days at a time!. Depression can mean just the opposite - or worse!. Substance abuse is common - especially before diagnosis - because the person will self-medicate!.

Here is the thing - the disorder kinda shapes the personality, but in a way doesn't!. I know my husband's disorder makes him really forgetful!. I cannot deal with him all the time without the meds - had enough of that before his diagnosis!. THe meds make it so he doesn't get nearly as manic (high) or as depressed (low)!. It makes it so he can focus on something, although he sometimes still has trouble with it!. But my husband is worse than most people - most people, with treatment, lead almost normal lives!.

Here is the thing - if he is really acting out of character, something is going on!. Take the average him, and go with that!. Also, urge him to stay on treatment - or get it if he is not getting any treatment!. He should have regular doctor appointments and probally be on meds!. It really helps quality of life!. If he does something you don't approve of, tell him so and tell him why!. Do not make excuses unless the excuse is realistic and actually related to his disorder!. He still is responsible for his actions, but sometimes a little push in the right direction is needed!.

Most of all, keep on being a supportive friend!. That is the best gift he will have, regardless of whether he always realizes it!. If you need more help, e-mail me!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

I hope you get the answers you need!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

I know a few people that are bi-polar!. Their moods go from extreme lows to extreme highs!. They can tend to cry a lot or get very anger, with a blink of an eye!.
Unless you're prepared for it and know how to deal with it, it can be very frustrating for the other person!.
They can't control their emotions like you and I!.
A lot of patience and understanding is needed!.!.!.Www@Answer-Health@Com
