I'd suggest you talk to your doctor about getting into a program that will assist you to get off the drugs!. If you're in Australia, I heard on the radio a few days ago that there is a program that can assist people with long term valium etc!. addictions to get clean in 6 weeks!.
If you're not in Australia, I'm sure there is some similar program that your doctor can recommend to you!.
Good luck!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

Some Effects of Valium Use:

Physical Addiction
Mental Addiction
Depression / Emotional Blunting
Abdominal Cramps
Blurred Vision
Dry Mouth
Racing Heartbeat / Palpitations
Shaking / Slurred Speech
Urination Problems
Convulsions
Hallucinations
Trouble Breathing
Staggering / Trembling
Headache
Confusion
Amnesia
Inhibit natural process of learning how to cope
Sedation
Paradoxical Stimulant Effects (basically they make some people more active and anxious)

Sedation is a major one- driving on valium is not safe and also if taking other drugs with a sedative effect (such as alcohol or prescription meds) you are increasing risk of overdose!.

Withdrawing without medical help from long term use of valium can be dangerous and you can experience some nasty side effects!.

Its really important that you get some help from your GP or addiction service if you decide to come off!. Also your GP can refer you to counselling or a psychiatrist to help you cope better with the other things you are experiencing!.

The problem with valium is that you'll need to take increasingly high doses, just to get the same effect!. Are you getting any other help with your anxiety!? You need to ask your doctor to refer you for CBT, which is very effective for anxiety!. DON'T try and come off the valium on your own, you need to do it very slowly with medical help or things will be worse than before you started taking it!.
Good luck with it!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

Valium is addictive and it's not going to do anything for your depression!.
I suggest you change your doctor and find one who knows how to treat people properly!. You will need a gradual reducing regime to wean you off the Valium, a course of therapy and anti-depressant medication!.
Good luckWww@Answer-Health@Com

its sounds like you lack confidence in yourself, and maybe have developed a social pohobia,
at one point i'd never go anywhere without stuff other than going to college (would be sober at college though) but anywhere else i'd have to have alcohol, speed or pills, it was all due to complete lack of confidence inself i i felt compeltely unable to socialise as my sober self, i felt better and more able to get on with people other people when buzzed up, and got used to feeling like that in social places and when didnt kinda felt out of place, akward, etc

you have to try force yourself to go palces without things, its dreading at first but then you get abit more used to it!. you might be best speaking to your doctors and asking to see a councoler they are trained to help people with depressionWww@Answer-Health@Com

The long-term effects may be found in Professor Ashton's Manual, aka The Ashton Manual!.

Chapter 1 is the relevant one - there is mention of both depression and agorophobia!.Www@Answer-Health@Com
