Will you give me your opinion on what my doctor said?!

Question: Will you give me your opinion on what my doctor said!?
Okay, I have two problems, apart from depression, which I've struggled with for much of my life!. I drink three or four times a week, and when I do, I drink a lot!. But what I see right now as being a more serious problem is a very poor self image!. I know drinking only contributes to the depression, but I don't think it has everything to do with the way I feel about myself!. It's started to control my life!. I've become so insecure about the way I look that it's hard for me to go out in public, and especially be in a social situation with a group of people!. Also, more recently, I've started to believe there's something wrong with my personality, like I'm an unpleasant person, or something!. I know it's distorted thinking, and I see it as being a fairly serious psychiatric problem!. More than the drinking, although I know that needs to stop, too!.

Anyway, I started an outpatient program last week, and after four days I was told I don't belong in that group!. I did get drunk one night, and!.!.!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

Answers:
You have already taken the first step, which is admitting you have a problem!. I do believe that depression and poor self image can lead to drinking, and it can be a vicious cycle!. I think one day at a time is a good approach, and therapy can't hurt!. Remember you have friends, even if they are only online, and they can help!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

Unfortunately when people are referred to rehab they don't take the advise!.
However until you can swallow your pride and go to rehab, even though you may think you shouldn't, you must!. The problem is going to continue!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

Sure, Twiggy2, I could definitely give it a try!.
#1: Alcohol is a depressant!. Not only does it
helps to nurture your depression, it can also
distort your self-esteem and lead to a very
poor self-image!.
Not to rag on you for drinking, but you have to
decide which is more important to you at the moment:
partying or rehabilitation!?
Not saying that everything can suddenly just end all at once,
but you have to at least be able to try!. As Tater Salad
already mentioned; you've already made the first step!.
Now you need to follow through with some goals!.
You're see yourself growing/reaching a better place
one step at a time!. But you have to be patient and keep
getting back up each time you fall!.
#2: It sounds to me like you also have some form of social anxiety disorder!. Such may not be the case, but if I were you I would definitely look into seeing another Doctor and have an
independent evaluation/second opinion!. There is nothing wrong with your personality unless you're a serial killer or something of that nature!.
#3: The drinking makes you unpleasant to be around; remove the substance abuse and the real you can shine through!. We all think we need an edge, but we don't!.!.not at the price of we have to pay afterward!.

Best of luck with all of your endeavor; and I know you can do it!. We're all in your corner!.

I've never heard of not being able to see a therapist till you've stopped drinking!. I respectfully suggest that you seek a second opinion and continue to find a therapist a!.s!.a!.p!. so you can get your thoughts sorted out and try to make the changes you need for yourself!. Good luck and sincere best wishes to you!.Www@Answer-Health@Com
