A lot of people think a mental illness is brought on by you!. They think your just weak and don't try hard enough!. Before my problems I never understood how someone could get this way, although I never doubted the reality of there problem!.I think people are afraid of what they don't understand!.

I have depression,Psychosis and Anxiety!. I still sometimes wonder how I let it get this bad!. My Therapist tells me that it was out of my control!. I never knew it was happening until it got to the point of no return!.

Don't be afraid to admit to it , as it is more common then you think!. I think now that we have names for all these illnesses that it's just more recognized and they have validated what is real!.

Take care and don't give up!Www@Answer-Health@Com

I think that people are scared when they know that you have a mental illness!. They are not sure if they will say or do anything to "send you over the edge", whereas, with a cold or broken leg, it's not such a big deal if you make a funny comment about it!. We all need a bit more information about the condition / conditions, to make us feel more comfortable in dealing with folk who are in this position!. Unfortunalely, at the moment, it seems that it must be down to the person themselves to explain a bit about their situation, which may not be possible, depending on how confident they are!!!Www@Answer-Health@Com

i have sudden onset seizure disorder!.!. i knew there was something going on for a few months before i actually admitted i needed to talk to a doctor and get it figured out!.!. my reason was more family related!.!.

i was afraid to be told i had the same thing my dad passed away from!.!. a brain aneurysm!. when he passed away, the doctor told us that there was a chance they were inherited!.!. and I honestly was afraid that I was having early signs!.!.

the last thing you want to be told is your gonna die that there is nothing that can be done!.!. I got told they cant do anything!.!. and im gonna be on medication for the rest of my life!.

Mental diseases will always carry a stigma !.!. they dont know what causes the defect!. they cannot find a treatment that works for every case all the time, its hard!.!. i myself, a person in the medical field!.!. to sometimes work with the bipolar and schizophrenic patients that i do!.!. being physically sick can be corrected!.!. mental illnesses can only be managed!.!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

hi there i am not afraid to admit it ,but the looks you get are quite mean ppl hear this and you know the look your a crazy person!.ppl need to be more educated on this, they have no ideal how we are how hard life can seem to us !.i have bpd bipolar, which automatically they are like wow and on top of it recovering alcoholic and addict you also feel it there because ppl dont or wont understand i am no less than the other ppl in this world !.it is like your a miss fit !.if i hear crap in a conversation on these subject i tell it like it is and i say i didnt want to be this way what is your excuse to being ignorant !.Www@Answer-Health@Com

Not for most illnesses, like depression, anxiety and now even bipolar!. I think it is mostly in the eye of the beholder - you expect to find it, so you interpret anything and everything in that light!.

I have schizophrenia, and people are certainly afraid of us, but I find it quite understandable to be honest!.!.!.

I posted my non-pc views on why this is in answer to this question, if you like being offended:

Yes theres still stigma, I know when people hear the word psychosis they hide their kids, back away slowly and don't even THINK about getting that job or houseshare!.

No one will take you seriously ever again if you admit to hearing voices or having a delusion, you can be talking about making pasta for dinner and can see people trying to work out if you were imagining it!.!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

there is a stigma about mental illness, it makes people a bit nervous to be around you, i have it with people, i told the people at work and there fine with it coz they know people who have had mental illnesses so there not bothered by mine, i don't care who knows I'm mentally ill, if they want to judge me for something that is out of my control then leave them to itWww@Answer-Health@Com

People fear the unknown or "un normal" they don't know how to deal with this and instead make jokes, tease, and reject them forcing them into a life of loneliness and confusion!. Sometimes, even family members will do things of this nature!. I simply call them ignorants and maybe if they ask or think that something is Wrong, it would make things better!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

yhhh i no wot u mean, maybe because its about the state of mind and maybe they think people will think bad of them as a overall person or summin which deffinatley isnt the case!. but a cold is something more physical that is simple to get and something we are in fear of if you know what i mean,
