If they won't help me when I ask for help... What hope do I have???!

Question: If they won't help me when I ask for help!.!.!. What hope do I have!?!?!?
I'm a 20 year old female college student, when I was 4 I was sexually abused (for 2 years by a female cousin), when I was 15 I was sexually assaulted, and at 18 I witnessed a terrifying shooting at my school!. I've been cutting since 13, attempted suicide 4x, and have a hard time feeling anything but lonely and sad!. I know a psychiatrist is the best answer, a teacher of mine referred me to the head of the psychiatry clinic, and they told me that they don't have a program for people with situations like mine, and that was it!.!.!. No more follow-up nothing, just plain old "Have a good day"!. I still see a counselor at school; but my teacher believes I might need more, and I kinda agree!. I want help; but help seems to have turned its back on me!.!.!. What do I do now!? I want to get better; I want to be able to move past there horrific events, and this addiction to cutting; but I cannot do that on my own, and seeing this counsellor for a year hasn't really helped!.!.!. What do I do!? Someone help plzWww@Answer-Health@Com

First of all let me say I feel for all you have gone through!. Remember you can see yourself as a Victim or a Survivor!. You are an adult now, obviously smart or you wouldn't be in college!. Drag out the phone book and look for help!. Look for a mental health clinic in your area, most areas have state funded mental health agencies!. If you can't find it in the phone book call the Dept of Mental Health and ask them for some suggestions!. You don't say if you're in the U!.S but I do know all these are available in every state in the U!.S!.
The cutting is an addiction and you can outgrow it with help!. If you can't find a mental health professional, go to a support group!. This counselor really hasn't helped at all or is it that you're just not as far along as you'd like!. You have an EXCELLENT chance at getting better!. I work with women who have gone through similar things and with time and a lot of work on their point they go grow!. Remember getting past something does not mean not remembering!. It's remembering and saying that was then, this is now!. The main thing is don't give up on you! If you're not getting the help you want and think you should be receiving move to a new therapist!. Work hard on your issues-YOU ARE WORTH IT!.!.!.!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

find a hobby and talk to friends and family that you trust, and explain how you feel to them!. Letting all your feelings out will take a load off you!. Also, like i said, find a hobby!.!. something you enjoy doing!. This will take your mind off things and make you enjoy life!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

Psychiatry clinics won't be able to help you!. You need to seek out a psychologist!. It's a difference that's hard to notice!.!. psychiatrist versus psychologist!. But Psychiatrists generally deal with disorders - bipolar, depression, schizophrenia, etc!. Things that can be treated with medications or in a more clinical way!.

Psychologists deal more with behaviors, experiences, traumas!. These are the ones who will sit down and talk with you and help you deal with things!.

A psychologist is what you need!. I would suggest asking friends, family, and your counselors/teachers to see if they know anyone who they feel is helpful and friendly!.

Chiara;
I am gonna cut/paste some of your post here just so I can go point by point and not miss anything!.
!. I know a psychiatrist is the best answer, a teacher of mine referred me to the head of the psychiatry clinic, and they told me that they don't have a program for people with situations like mine, and that was it!.!.!. No more follow-up nothing, just plain old "Have a good day"!. I still see a counselor at school; but my teacher believes I might need more, and I kinda agree!. I want help; but help seems to have turned its back on me!.!.!. What do I do now!? I want to get better;
unfortunately navigating the psychiatric world can be fairly difficult and the titles that the practitioners have doesn't help because you really can't tell what one person does or does not do necessarily based on their title!. One of the lines in your posting says you're teacher believes you might need more!. And I would tend to agree with that, the problem is that a psychiatrist is not necessarily "more" than a counselor, psychologist, or therapist!. The only advantage of psychiatrist has over these other individuals is the ability to prescribe medications!. I hate to make generalizations but unfortunately it seems as though the ability of a psychiatrist to write prescriptions seems to often come at the expense of them actually talking to a patient regarding what's going on in their life!. I remember in medical school that adolescent follow-up appointments were actually referred to as med-checks, not follow-up's
it's hard for me to imagine that been on a specific medication would be a major benefit to you but I suppose it is possible!. Often times when I have discussed this subject with someone by the split people up into two groups; bad brain, and normal brain exposed to very bad circumstance!. People with "bad brain" have psychiatric symptoms despite whatever circumstances they are in!. People who are truly depress can be just as depress 20 win the lottery, as when their house catches on fire!. However, people with normal brain will be depressed if they're exposed to death of a spouse, death of a pet, bankruptcy, the horrors of war!. These individuals in my opinion are less likely to be helped by medication because there is no chemical problem going on in their brain, their brain is reacting normally to a very abnormal circumstance!. What has happened to you is extraordinarily abnormal and traumatic!. It seems that the most logical thing for you would be a counselor/psychotherapist/psychoanalyst!. Although these individuals can't prescribe medication they can sit down in talks you like a human being who is reacting to superhuman levels of stress and trauma!.also try to remember that the damage done to you didn't happen overnight, likewise it won't go away overnight!. This is going to take some time for you to get through but I believe the people that are most likely to be all of benefit to you in the long-term are practitioners such as psychologist, psychoanalyst, and therapist rather than psychiatrist!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

I believe you may be suffering from PTSD: See Post Traumatic Stress Disorder, at http://www!.ezy-build!.net!.nz/~shaneris on pages 33 - 34, and examine the http://1-800-therapist!.com/ website, and use the locators in section 1, and phone book, and/or various associations for psychiatrists and psychologists, to find the nearest one using EMDR therapy!. If unable to afford it, or to locate one nearby, contact the county/local mental health agency: any therapy on offer may prove helpful, particularly if combined with appropriate medication!. (The following is a variant of EMDR therapy, which has been used successfully for those people suffering from Post Traumatic Stress Disorder, insomnia, and anxiety: it is easily learned, quick to use, yet can be very effective!. It is easy to be dismissive of it, because it may seem a little strange, but is well worth trying, for at least a few weeks, to see how it effective it is in your case)!. ==================== ==================== ==================== ==================== First, sit comfortably, and take a deep breath!. Then, without moving your head, move your eyes from the left, to the right, and back again, taking around a second to do so (say: "a thousand and one": this takes approximately a second)!. Repeat this procedure (without the words, although you can count, subvocally if you like) 20 times!. Then close your eyes and relax!. Become aware of any tension or discomfort you feel!. Then open your eyes, and take another deep breath, and repeat step one, closing your eyes, and relaxing afterwards, in the same manner!. Then, repeat the procedure one last time!. Some people may find that this is all they need do: others find that they need 2 sessions in quick succession, but professional treatment is the best option, if you can access it!. With practice, you may find that you can employ this technique with your eyes closed, thereby enabling a much wider window of opportunity to use in public, without attracting unwanted attention!. Professional EMDR is preferable!. ==================== ==================== ==================== ==================== See the advice, and weblinks/hotlines regarding suicidal thoughts/ideation, in section 5, at http://www!.ezy-build!.net!.nz/~shaneris and contact them, when the need arises!. View the advice on self harm, in section 16, at http://www!.ezy-build!.net!.nz/~shaneris and contact them, when you feel the need to self harm/cut!. There are various suggestions, much information, and useful weblinks on my website: far too much to include here, which is why I needed to create it!. Seek therapy, to help you address the actual cause of those problems, rather than using an inappropriate method of treating the symptoms, which others have found, doesn't work, in the longer term, and that leaves behind the extra problem of scarring to deal with, then!. ===================== A multidimensional approach to treating depression without medication follows!. All except for no!. (7!.) are safe to use with medication, but not St!. John's wort, because of interactions, and it's sensible to check out anything else first with your doctor!.

(1!.) Take 4 Omega 3 fish oil supplements, daily: (certified free of mercury) it is best if consumed with an antioxidant, such as an orange, or grapefruit, or their FRESHLY SQUEEZED juice!. If vitamin E is added, it should be certified as being 100% from natural sources, or it may be synthetic: avoid it!.

(2!.) Work up slowly to at least 20 minutes minutes of exercise, daily, or 30 - 60 mns, 5 times weekly!. Too much exercise can cause stress, which isn't wanted when dealing with depression!.

(3!.) Occupational therapy (keeping busy allows little time for unproductive introspection, and keeps mental activity out of less desirable areas of the brain)!.

(4!.) Use daily, one of the relaxation methods in sections 2, 2!.c, 2!.i, or 11, and/or yoga, Tai Chi, and/or the EFT, in sections 2!.q, 2!.o, and section 53, at http://www!.ezy-build!.net!.nz/~shaneris whichever works best for you!.

(5!.) Initially, at least, some form of counselling, preferably either Cognitive Behavio(u)ral Therapy, or Rational Emotive Behavio(u)ral Therapy!.

(6!.) Maintain a mood chart, and daily activities schedule, as per page Z!.12, in section 2, at ezy build!.

(7!.) As options, if desired, either a known, effective herbal remedy, such as St!. John's wort, 900 mg (standardised hypericin content) 3 times daily, totalling around 2,700 mg, or supplements, such as SAMe, taken with a vitamin B complex which is certified as being 100% of natural origin, or Inositol (from vitamin and health food stores, some supermarkets, or mail order: view section 55)!.

Also, 80% of people in the Western world have low magnesium levels, and these are known to cause depression & anxiety!. Try the magnesium supplement types shown in http://www!.real-depression-help!.com/ Some of these will be available in pharmacies, or supermarkets!.

An improvement can be noticed in as little as a week, if a deficiency is the cause!. Also, iodised salt is preferable to regular salt!. This is a shortened version of the much more comprehensive post, which may be seen on page Z!.12, in section 2 of ezy build, above, but to gain full appreciation, it's really best to view the whole of section 2!. =================== =================== =================== =================== LONELINESS: Join mutual interest groups, clubs, associations, sports, gym, & take up classes in yoga, t'ai chi, Pilates, art, self defence, aerobics, creative writing, or ceramics, etc!. Consider volunteering, even from home, at first, as a means of changing your focus from your feelings of loneliness, and will help stop useless introspection!. Sections 38, & 47 at http://www!.ezy-build!.net!.nz/~shaneris refer, and view section 9, about making friends, being popular, and what to talk about, or avoid, in the Wikihow articles!. Approach people with sensible questions, and find out what they're like, and, for example: "What sort of things are you interested in, Obediah!? I like archery, and train spotting, but have recently learned not to combine the two!." Next: "I'm from Argedargedah, in Australia, Obediah, Where are you from, originally!?" (BTW, It's on the map!) On volunteering outside the home, you will come into contact with supportive people, and receive positive feedback for your efforts, which will be obviously appreciated, and it will give added purpose to your life, as well as helping others!. It can also be an indication of the presence of depression, or dysthymia, and there are quizzes for this via sections 1, & 2, at ezy build!.
