well it takes awhile for the medicine to kick in!. nothing will happen overnight, unfortunately, but stick with it, after 6 weeks, if you still don't see any improvement then talk to your doctor!. You should be having regular visits between then though to see how you are feeling!. Also if at that time, no changes have happened, the doctor may need to change the medicine!. There are several different anti depressants out there and each of them work differently, however at that time if they switch your medication, it would take another 6 weeks for it to work fully!. As for the weight issue, well some medications can make you gain weight or lose weight!. And I understand that being depressed makes you not want to get up and work off those pounds!. What I found that helped me was not to eat anything before I went to bed!. About 4 hours before!. By that simple change I lost about 24 pounds in 2 months!. I still ate what I wanted but nothing after 7pm, which I usually went to bed around 11pm!. Hope this helps!Www@Answer-Health@Com

Hi catherine,

I think you need to return to your GP and explain they are not working for you, at least not at that dose!. It does take anti-depressants anything from 6 weeks to a few months to kick in but since you have been on them for 8 months and see no improvement most GP's would then either increase the dose or change the anti-depressant!. This happens to many people so don't worry!. Finding the right anti-depressant can be trial and error really!. I am on my 4th Anti-depressant in just over a year!

best of luck

When a Doctor prescribes anti-depressants it can be somewhat of a guessing game as to which one is going to be effective!.

It's not uncommon for anti-depressants to take several weeks to kick in, and the first one tried may not be effecitve!. I recommend talking to your Doctor to see if you should try another type!. If the next type doesn't work there are also others that are available!.

In the meantime St!. John's Wort, a plant, is available over-the-counter at most pharmacies and has been used for many years to treat depression!. This was the first anti-depressant I took and it made a significant difference!. I now use it in combination with prescribed anti-depressants!.

Further, the fact that you have three children and work full time is probably contributing to your lack of strength and the depression!. I'm a parent, and I've been to war!. Parenting is a lot scarier and exhausting than going to war!.

Years ago, my Doctor recommended that my family join the local YMCA and it has made a world of difference!. Exercise doesn't just burn calories it releases endorphins, and every time I manage to drag myself in to the Y, even for a swim, I come out feeling much better!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

Yeah, it's hard to say much without knowing how long you've been on the antidepressant!. Anti-depressants generally can take 2-6 weeks to kick in and when they do, the signs are really subtle!. Sometimes, it's that you sleep a little better, get out of bed a little quicker, your mood is a little better, things that you might not even notice!. If you have been on the anti-depressant for at least 3 months and you are feeling the same then yes, I would call the doctor and say you are not feeling any better and you'd like to increase the dose!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

i know exactly how you are feeling, and my one bit of advice would be to chat to your GP!. When i started feeling like that, my GP advised that i increased my dosage, and it worked!. i didnt like having to increase the medication, but it helped, and after 6 months or so i was able to lower the dosage again!.
its not failure to admit that you need more help-it sounds like your life is crazy busy even when youre feeling on top form, never mind when you feel low!
good luck sweetieWww@Answer-Health@Com

okay!. let's see!.

i used to lexapro and it was good for a while, but soon it turned sour!. it made me function improperly without it and i went through some sort of a withdrawal getting off of it!. i strongly recommend not taking medication!.

as for exercise, you have to force yourself into it for the first while!. once you do that your body will start releasing chemicals into your body and you will find yourself a lot more energetic!. remember, though, the first few exercises will be really tiring!.

hope the advice helps!. good luckWww@Answer-Health@Com

it takes around 6 wks for the meds to start working so give it time,it could also be the meds making u more tired than normal aswell and another thing take 1 step at a time ur a working mum of 3 relax for a while a few wks and then get started on a diet plan for ur weight, dont try and be a martyr and remember things will improve its not the end of the world keep d chin up i got tru similar experience and thought id never get over it but times a healerWww@Answer-Health@Com

well, i was on prozac for 4 months and i didnt feel like it was doing anything!. I switched to a different medication!. Now i am perfectly fine!. it does take about 6-7 weeks for the medicine to kick in, but since you have been on it for a while it should be doing something for you!. In my opinion, i would go to your phyciatrist (sorry i cant spell that)!. Tell him and see what he says!.

GOOD LUCK!!!!!Www@Answer-Health@Com

Hi, you may well need a slightly higher dose for the depression to properly lift!. Go and see your GP (presuming it is your GP and not a psychiatrists whom prescribes the antidepressant) and have a talk to him/her about how you feel and ask if an increased dose would help!. All the best!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

you would need to let us know the antidepresants you take and how long you've been taking them etc for anyone to have an opinion! message me if you like!. I have experience, both personal and professionaly on this matter!Www@Answer-Health@Com

that's typically low for that period of time, most adults will be on 20mg of maintenance dose, check with your doctor, seems that you are under dosed!. Take this in the am!.
