this is odd but listen!. Donny Osmond who has been performing and in front of people since he was about 4 had to drop out of the Broadway hit 'Joseph and the amazing techno colored dream coat" becasue he developed social anxiety!!! He had no idea what it was!.!.!.

Social anxiety disorder!. "There are times I remember before I walked on stage, where if I had the choice of walking on stage or dying, I would have chosen death," Osmond stated in a 2000 interview with 48 Hours!. According to the interview, Osmond remembered first feeling anxiety on stage at age 11!. The anxiety was at its worst in 1997 when Osmond sought professional help and was diagnosed with social anxiety disorder!.

When Osmond's social anxiety began to affect his performance in Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat, his producers contacted Jerilyn Ross, the president and CEO of The Anxiety Disorders Association of America!. Ross taught Osmond a number of cognitive-behavioral exercises, and Osmond saw progress in three days!. "I kind of taught him to play with the fear, instead of running from it," Ross told 48 HoursWww@Answer-Health@Com

We are all born differently

Why give it a negative tag anyway, as if its a problem not being a motor-mouth

I dont like hot weather but they dont call that heat anxiety

Hi, I was not having a go at you personally just the way its seen in general!. I had it even in nursery!. Just like people are born with autism I think people are born with a much milder form you could call social anxiety

We have people on our backs telling us to be more outgoing all our lives, and the "your so quiet" remarks and if it is how we are born with then thats how we are and we cant change itWww@Answer-Health@Com

In my case, I have two older sisters!. One is 2 yrs older and the other one 4!. The oldest has always hated me and she would, since childhood, purposely ignore/exclude me from everything and just be best friends with my other sister!. Anytime Anyone came to the house who was young (like us), she would talk about how stupid, spoiled, conceited, etc I was (though I was just a kid and not any of those things)!. I was ridiculed for being chunky as a kid and she kept a picture of me where I looked very fat!. So, I was basically laughed at and shunned during all of my developmental years!. My parents were always working and my mother was abusive to me also!. My father was miserable and always wanted to be left alone!. I always still cared about everyone and wanted to be close and 'fix' things, but I couldn't!. I was hurt so much that I suffered from depression and people outside my family didn't interest me much!. I was afraid that if I 'let them in', they would hurt me too!. I still struggle with fearing other people and it really sucks!. However, except for my father (who has become a much nicer person)!.!.!.I have pretty much severed ties with my mother and sisters!. It was extremely painful, but I'm starting to recover slowly!.

Oh, and my parents hardly ever took us out!. I did lack proper social interaction!. I always read a lot so I test at above average intelligence, but my social skills need work!. I was teased at school for being 'mute'!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

ive had this problem since middle school!.!.!. people used to ridicule me and hate me because i was soooo different than the normal athletic black male!. i wasnt good at sports so people constantly put me down for it and beat me up, i wasnt talkative, so they thougt i was being stuck and so they beat me up, my math skills sucked!! so eveyone made fun of it and called me a dumbass even the teacher made fun of it and called on me in class for fun!!!.!.!.!. im not sure how it developes but thats how mine did and now i can't really talk that much because i fear i'll be ridiculed or say something idioticWww@Answer-Health@Com

I don't know!. I've had it all my life (I'm now 39) I suspect it's a case of nature/nurture!. Some people are just born shy/anxious, whilst early life events may increase the likelihood of someone developing this often disabling condition!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

i don't really know, i was told that i have had it ever since i was very young, so maybe that means you are born with it!.!.!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

otherwise known as shyness!.!.!. fear of being rejected, etc!. check wiki out on this :)Www@Answer-Health@Com

I would think they would develop this from not having enough social interaction in their early years!.Www@Answer-Health@Com
