Why is this generation addicted to depression?!

Question: Why is this generation addicted to depression!?
It seems lately that everyone online and offline, talk about commiting suicide, cutting themselves, and then going online to whin about it and not do a single thing about it!. They just sit and expect sympathy from people!. I swear depression is becoming more of a drug than pot!.

Why is this!? (And please don't give me a stupid answer saying it's the emo trend becuase emo is a fricken dead music genre and nothing more)Www@Answer-Health@Com

It seems to me that it's part of the larger societal move towards sitting and waiting for everything: people want attention, but they don't want to have to work for positive attention, so they threaten to kill themselves, hoping someone will care!. Additionally, for those who are actually depressed, they often seek a quick fix through medications which, judging fromt he people I know who are on them, only make them more depressed and emotionally uneven!. I think it also has to do with the fact that people are attached to some unattainable vision of happiness (i!.e!. contentment through material things, and they can never get enough of those things) that they are pretty much doomed to be depressed because they'll never be satisfied!. Rather than look inward and admit that they are being shallow they blame it on depression (i!.e!. "I can't help it!.!.!.I'm depressed!.")!. It's a shame really, because there are people who are legitimately depressed, but no one believes them because of all the boys (and girls) who cry wolf!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

Generations today are people who are just seeking attention and will find and do anything to get it! Those who really do have depression don't necessarily know or talk about it!. They tend to bottle it all up!. Look at it this way those who have committed suicide successfully usually surprise those who care about them because they never mentioned it to anyone!. So those who talk about committing suicide today its a desperate attempt to gain attention!.
But still today many more poeple have depression "for real" more than we have seen in past generations because our lifestyles have changes so dramatically!. It is sad that people today feel the need to mention something as serious as suicide in order to gain a little spotlight!.!. What does that say about what our world is coming too!?Www@Answer-Health@Com

First off nobody who blogs about being depressed is really depressed truely depressed people bottle it up!. Secondly ALL teenagers today talk about suicide and cutting themselves because they think its cool and they want attention!. Third they whine because they want you to pay attention to them and pitty them!. They want people to go "oh woah is you" ect!. Yes a lot of teenagers are emo but that has nothing to do with anything because most teenagers dont even understand what emo really is!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

we live in a society of quick solutions--the fast onion chopper! record your shows if you're not home! fast DSL! instamatic! everything is instant, quick, fast!. we have become accustomed to this!. when something is not instant, fast, or quick in terms of finding a solution, we grow impatient and angsty!.

i think this helps contribute!.

also, we are growing up in a society of "victims!." people think they have it so badly--and don't stop to consider the plights of others!. it's a selfish and narcissistic trend that is, frankly, driving everyone into a pit!.

we all get a little upset every now and then, but people expect things to be done fast!. and FOR them, with little effort on their part!.

also, people are addicted to feeling sorry for themselves for these reasons!.!.!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

self-pity is addictive, people who do it actually revel in it, despite saying otherwise!. the truth is if they were really serious about killing themselves they would just do it instead of moaning about it and waiting for someone to tell them, "aww dont say that, you have plenty to live for, think about how your family would feel, etc!. etc!." the truth is they already know all that but they feel good inside if someone tells them it!.!.!.they shouldn't bother asking in the 1st place!.

if they ask you face 2 face it is really an abuse of friendship (unless you know them really well), and if they r asking on y|a it's an abuse of the yahoo answers system!. it's ok to share your problems, quite another to make someone feel guilty or responsible because you are threatening to take your own life!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

For starters you're right, emo is a stupid dead scene that did nothing for anyone!.

Lately i have been feeling deppressed and if it was just a 'trend' to get friends or whatever, then i'd rather not have them!.

I my case the reason that i'm not doing anything currently about it is because to be blunt, i'm scared!.

And people like you are making it even harder, because if i do speak up about the way ive been feeling then everyone will just say "oh!. it's just a trend, you have nothing wrong with you "your just another one of those people 'following the crowd'"!.

Does anyone understand what i'm trying to say!?

Anyway!.!.!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

There's a lot to be depressed about these days!. And I disagree with "people who are depressed don't show it"!. Yes they do!. A lot of people feel alone and just want someone to notice them!. They don't go around projecting themselves in a good way, a lot of people don't know how!.
They just need to learn about life and grow a little!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

the world is becoming more ****** up, everythings becoming more about money and not about love or compassion!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

It seems to be the most convenient way for those who are looking for an excuse to get access to drugs so they won't feel anything!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

Media!. Everything in every generation is influenced by the media!.Www@Answer-Health@Com
