Does depression tend to be a life-long affliction?!

Question: Does depression tend to be a life-long affliction!?
I'm not currently depressed, and haven't been for some time now!. However, I have had several rather severe bouts over the years, the most dangerous of which occurred when I was fifteen!. (I am now nineteen!.)

I've made considerable efforts to alleviate the symptoms and causes, and kept in good contact with loved ones; I have sought help from professionals in the past, and have them available to me should I need them in future!.

So I'm not really all that worried, but I would still like to know: does depression tend to afflict people throughout their whole lives!?

I know it tends to be particularly hard on teenagers and the elderly, but as I'm very nearly twenty years old, I wonder if I might have some hope of "growing out of it"!. Whatever the case may be, I just want to do what's best for my mental health!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

I know you've heard it before--"Everyone gets the blues"--but if your 'blues' are more than a passing emotion or are happening more & more frequently you should seek counseling and/or psychiatric care and/or meds!. Yes, it does affect some their whole lives; these are the clinically depressed!. There is no shame to being depressed or classified as mentally ill!. Depression symptoms can range from mild blues to thoughts of suicide or homicide!. If you are as concerned as you sound, please speak first to your medical doctor, then to the psychiatric professional whom your dr will be glad to recommend!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

If it's treated/managed well, then no, it shouldn't be a life long affliction!. You will, however, be more suseptable to it in the future!. The important thing is that you know this and you're getting help, which is great! Good luck!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

it's hard to say because there are so many patterns to depression, and it's unrealistic to think that life is a bowl of perfect cherries even without depression!.
