How do you stop cutting yourself?!


Question: How do you stop cutting yourself!?
When you want to cut everyday!. I have been cutting for 3 years!. I know I need to stop!. I have tried many times to stop!.
*Write in a journal
*Pop a rubber band
*Draw red lines on my arms
*cook
*take a cold shower
*talk to a friend-She is the only one I talk to about it!.
*throw my blades away-I buy new ones!. When I want to cut I'll use keys,pens & my nails!. If I can get my hands on something sharp I'll use it!. I don't cut for attention I'm not emo!. My family does not know I cut!. I hide it well!. I cut on my thighs and wear jeans all the time!. My parents think those people are crazy!. Thanks for answering!. First of all i agree with the answer's who said tell your parents !.second this problem cannot just be simply solved by throwing away your problem (it helps to throw away the blaids) you cannot cover it up !.Just like if some one was stabbed in the chest and was bleeding profusivly you cannot just but a bandaid on in go about your way you have to dig in the wound and stich each part up because if you don't you will just be bleeding inside untill the point you blled so much that you die, and what I mean by that is you your self have to find the reason why you cut no one can tell you that reason the only one who can tell you that is your self because just like a wound you cannot throw away the problem and the reason why you need to tell your parents is for support !.yes it's true you can go to a friend but some times you need to confied in a parent and get the mother's & Father's Love and support and i realy think that is going to help you but the main thing is ask your self why do i do this!? it hurt's like H311 when i do this !,and when you find that reason it mabe many reason you slowly erase the problem or problems or resolve them to a point where they don't bother you any more and I can tell you your parent's might want to take you to a Psychiatrist and you should not fear that because they will listen to you they will not judge you they understand your a teenager and it's hard being a Teenager and some time's that take life's woes out in a weiry way ! You might be surprized how seeing a Psychiatrist might make you feel a whole lot's better and seeing a Psychiatrist does not mean your crazy it just means you have emotional problems that need to be solved!. P!.s you don't have to be emo to cut your self ! The way people deal with thing's are all different you don't have to be of some Club(not sure if emo is a club!?) to be this way!. and not all emo's cut themselves !.

I'm a cutter and the only way I can stop or hold off for a day or two is to surround myself with friends or focus on something else ( like God, schoolwork, sports)

I find exercise helps a lot!. When I feel really down, I force myself to go for a walk and I'm usually more calm by the end of it!.

If you feel you need to cut, make a very very shallow one, where its just enough that you see the red or blood or whatever!. They fade in two weeks or so unlike deeper ones that stay for months or forever!.

I know your going through a tough time!. You know its hard to stop your cutting because you are addicted, its how you feel relief and dont know how to get it any other way!. I know every one tells you that you needto get help, but it is your only way out!. If its something you really dont want your family to know about, reconsider!. see a therapist!. I know you probably think thats stupid and not going to do anything but it does! It takes a little while for it to start working but once it does it does!. If your comfortable a group therapy would be good so you can really feel your not aalone!.
yes this does mean telling your parents but theyd want to kno so they can help you!

click on my page and IM me, maybe i can help i was a cutter for lke 2!.5 years!. on and off though and i did it with undone paper clips and razors, knives,scissors!. i used whatever sharp thing like pencils at school when i needed to but then some stuff happened and i just stopped but im not confortable sharing everything with people on the net so im me and talk if i can trust you /open up to you ill tell you!.!.

and i dunno why you cut, and its different for everyone!. But for me it was because i was punishing myself!.
And then one day someone told me that in the old days, people used to seal promises with blood!. and i realized that everytime i cut and thought "your ******* worthless" i was just sealing that promise, and making it truer everytime i did it!.
and it was like a light switch from there!.!.!.i just!.!.!.stopped!. after doing it for 4 years!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

You do need to speak to your family about this!.

Have you ever thought about why you cut in the first place!? Finding out what is driving you to do this will be key to stopping!.

I applaud the fact that you've designed all of these things to help you stop the desire to cut, but pretty soon these methods will fail!. You need help, and there's nothing wrong with asking for it!.

well its kind of hard to stop, when you arent dealing with why your doing it in the first place!. first things first, rid yourself of the things that make you cut, and then the cutting should go with it!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

I would go to Another adult that you trust in your family and tell them and maybe they will take you to the dr!. and then you can get some help!.

im going through the same thing!. and people call ME emo too!. but!.!. u know what!? self harm is a disease!. u may be experiencing it!.!.
what i did was!.!. find the source of my reason to cut
and destroy it!. use common sense!. ur probably a young girl!.!. when your older you wil; regret everything!. you get scars and i even know some people who have been serioulsy injured by cutting!. they cut right through a vein and another person cut with an infected item!. try sports or something extremely active!. the addictiveness of cutting comes from ur body releaseing endorphins and u get the same hormonal pleasure from sports!.

Well your right you need to stop and those are good things to try and stop it!. Ok well first you need to ask yourself why are you doing it!. Then you need to write down everything that you like about yourself and what makes you feel good!. After that find something else to let out you feelings, like taking a walk or reading, you know thing that calm you down!. Don't worry you'll stop if you try hard enough! :)Www@Answer-Health@Com

I think you should tell your parents!. Stopping will be a lot easier for you once you do!. Even if your parents think those people are "crazy" - they love you, and I'm sure if they knew you were doing this they'd do everything in their power to help you!. They could get you some real help so you'd be able to stop!.

It's an addicting habit, I know; trust me!. I cut for several years myself but it's been a long time since I have but it takes a while for the urge to go away!. I promise it does, though!. I still think of it every now and then, but I don't feel compelled to cut like I used to!. It's an empowering feeling!.!.!.wanting to do it, but not!.

Think about how great it'd feel to say to yourself, "It's been an entire week since I last cut!." or "It's been an entire month since I last cut!." - or even longer! After that, you won't want to break your "streak"!.!.!.making resisting easier!.

Sometimes when I'm really upset, I'll sink my nails into my hands!. It's not good, either, but it's a heck of a lot better than cutting myself!. Just be careful not to go so hard as to draw blood, though!. Start off by trying that when you're upset instead of cutting!. Hopefully it will relieve your feelings a bit, and help calm you down enough to rationally think about the fact you don't WANT to cut!. You don't WANT to! Remember that! You're stronger than that!. Keep that in mind!.

If you can manage that instead of cutting, I think you're off to a good start!. That's not good either, though, so once you learn to calm yourself down from the major cutting urge you need to replace the nails with a healthier outlet!. Punch a pillow, go for a run, call your friend on the phone!. Anything to keep you occupied until you're no longer upset and no longer want to hurt yourself!.

Remember!.!.!.it solves NOTHING!. It's a quick fix to a bigger problem!. After you cut yourself, you don't have just one problem - you have two!. It becomes such a heavy burden, the feelings of guilt and anger!.!.!.telling someone is SO relieving, believe me!. I still suggest you tell your parents, as I think you'll feel a lot better after you do (I did, at least)!.

Think about how what you're doing now will affect your future!. I know when I cut, I kind of liked my scars!.!.!.I sort of viewed them as battle scars, of a sort!. I liked them, in an odd sort of way!. Like they were tangible evidence of the pain I felt!. It's been a while, but the scars are still there!. And I hate them now!. Do you really want permanent scars!? It's really not fun having people see your arms or legs and look with wide eyes and ask, "What HAPPENED to you!?" without even thinking about how rude they may be coming across!.
