Am i suffering Anxiety?!

Question: Am i suffering Anxiety!?
Hey there, i'm 18, and in january this year i started having issues relating to social situations, and places i dont feel i can escape!.
It's got steadily worse, and although i can force myself to be in these social situations, i will worry obsessively for weeks prior to the plan i've made!.
I also have panic attacks in some places, such as on trains and very enclosed spaces!.
I feel that it is gradually taking over my life, and i am supposed to be going to university in september- and at the moment, i feel as if this is not going to be possible!.

I have tried getting over this myself, and not letting it control me, but i feel it might be something i cant get over myself!.

I dont want to waste doctors time, so is this something i should be visiting a doctor for!? If so!.!.what could they do to help me reduce these feelings!?
I don't feel i can do the things i really want to do!. I'm almost in conflict with myself!. I also drink water to excess, and it's suggested this might be linkedWww@Answer-Health@Com

I am certainly not a psychiatrist, but I am a School Counselor and I have been diagnosed with panic disorder!.!.!.!. so I feel qualified to give my opinion!. It sounds to me like you are very much suffering from anxiety!. I would definitely consider going to a doctor for help!. There are several things they can do for you!. One is, of course, medication!. I personally did not want to be dependant upon medication, but taking it for a while did allow me to get my life back under control!. The fact that there are many big changes about to occur in your life is, I am sure, A HUGE FACTOR in the anxiety you are feeling!. Perhaps taking medication for a while will keep that under control!.

Something that helped me tremendously was entering into anxiety group therapy!. For one, the therapist showed us ways to combat the anxiety (like relaxation techniques and ways to help counter the thoughts in your head!)!. Another reason it really helped me is that by hearing the stories of the others in the group, I realized I am not that bad! There was one woman whose panic attacks were so bad that she literally had to leave work at least twice per week! Another had an ambulance called for her several times when she was in the mall!.
Anyway, definitely get help for yourself, there is no shame in it! One thing I learned is that panic is a natural reaction!. Our bodies are designed to do it to protect us!. For example, if a large dog starts to chase you, you should panic!. The adrenaline gives you an energy boost to help the escape!. The problem with people like you and me is that our bodies switch that on when there is no real reason to be afraid!. You are not going crazy, you are just under a lot of stress right now!.

GOOD LUCK TO YOU!Www@Answer-Health@Com

It sounds as though you've got a fear of open spaces - agoraphobia - and the panic attacks are what happen when you're faced with these situations!. Go and have a word with your doctor because there are treatments for this ailment and the sooner you seek help, the sooner you can get on with your life!. Then you won't have to worry about going to University in September!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

Crumbs, it sounds bad!. You should definitely go and see a doctor!. I don't know if the water thing has much effect but coffee and alcohol can often lead to heightened anxiety and panic attacks!. The doctor may be able to prescribe something calming - or may find something in your diet that is causing this!. My sister had the same thing - panic attacks and high anxiety!. She thought she was having mini heart attacks!. It turned out to be a tiny stomach ulcer! So seriously, it could be anything causing this!. It's very unlikely that it's just a mental condition!.

Hope this helps - and good luck!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

Water isn't the problem, if it was caffeine then maybe!. Do you eat properly!? I find if I don't I can get quite jittery!.

How about trying something simple to start with, I've found using hypnosis cd's or MP3 downloads to change habits, very effective (you need to do it for 30 days for it to work though & then repeat as necessary)!. There are ones you can get for agoraphobia, claustrophobia, panic attacks, social anxiety, anything you can think of!.

try these:

If they don't work then maybe your problem is more extreme & you need to call a counsellor or something!.Www@Answer-Health@Com
