Please help, what should I do about this appointment with my doctor?!

Question: Please help, what should I do about this appointment with my doctor!?
I'm 19 years old and I just went to a doctor for my first physical!. I was able to do the blood-work and just talk to the doctor the first time but I was supposed to make another appointment for a pelvic exam (I've never had one before)!. This was about a week ago!. I've been going to a psychologist and have been diagnosed as being bi-polar and was told that I need to get on a mood-stabilizing medication asap!. I've called my doctor and they want to talk to me about the medication during the appointment for my pelvic exam!. I've got anxiety and trust issues because of my childhood, and I don't feel like I trust my doctor enough yet to do that!. I've only seen this doctor once! It's making me very uncomfortable and to make it worse, I'm having a major depression cycle currently!. I'm not comfortable enough with the doctor to have my pelvic exam but I want to start some sort of medication because I'm sick of feeling like this! What should I do!?Www@Answer-Health@Com

Answers:
My suggestion would be for your psychologist to talk to your doctor about your need for medication and your anxiety about the pelvic exam!. You DON'T have to have both issues addressed at the same appointment!. You can first make the appointment for the medication and be honest about not only the bi-polar symptoms, but the anxiety as well!.

You doctor should be able to get you started on medication and also be sensitive to your anxiety about the pelvic exam!. If you don't feel safe getting the pelvic exam done by this doctor, you have the right to find a gynecologist that you feel comfortable with and have one doctor for the psych meds and/or other medical problems and one for women's issues!.

Another option is to request something for anxiety for prior to the exam!. I know the first time is stressful, but it is a necessary part of taking care of yourself!. Having even a one time dose of anti-anxiety medication could be an option and don't feel bad if you need to ask for it!.

Congratulate yourself on making a GREAT decision to get the help you need!. It is a HUGE step toward a healthier life!.

Hang in there and good luck,

talk to the doctor!. it is a doctor!. that is what they are there for!. you have a right to have someone, parent or guardian, in the room during any exam!. if that makes you feel safer!.!.!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

If you have any amount of common-sense you'll stay away from mood stabilisers! Run away from them as fast as you possibly can! They are evil things!. I've been on just about every one in existence and all have done me serious harm!.

Avoid lithium too if you possibly can!. You gain weight - and fast! I put on 4st in about 6 months!. It had no helpful benefits to me whatsoever!.

Re your exam- suggest you ask to see a practice nurse (I assume your trust issues all relate to men!?) and have her do it!? I refuse to have a bloke examine me down there for similar reasons, and have always had my smears done by a nurse!.

Does that help at all!.!.!.!?Www@Answer-Health@Com
