How is OCD treated?!

Question: How is OCD treated!?
What treatments are used for people that suffer from Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder!?Www@Answer-Health@Com

Answers:
A psychologist who specializes in cognitive behavioral therapy and has extensive experience with OCD can be very helpful!. Cognitive therapy teaches you ways to deal with irrational or troubling thoughts!. The behavioral aspect has to do with overcoming fears and anxieties through exposure to the things that cause anxiety!. Medication can also be useful initially in dealing with OCD!. Books can also be helpful in helping you to understand OCD and also learning that you are not alone, i!.e!., many others have similar problems!. Some sample books are "Getting Control" by Lee Baer, "Stop Obsessing" by Edna Foa, "When Once is Not Enough" by Gail Steketee, or "Brain Lock" by Jeffrey Schwartz!. "Feeling Good" by David Burns, though focusing on depression rather than OCD, is a good reference on cognitive therapy!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

Therapy in combination to OCD meds are what docs usually go with!. You don't necessarily need the meds, but you see relief faster and we live in a microwave society where we want everything NOW!. It all comes at a price though - meds don't come without side effects!. You also really have to be dedicated to your therapy!. It's not easy, but you can do it!.Www@Answer-Health@Com
