It is hard to narrow this down, as each autistic individual is (or can be) as different as the normal people around them!. But i would have to say the thing that i notice the most is the ability to completely zone out!. The blank look they have when you know that they are in their own thoughts!. How wonderful the world must seem at time in the eyes of the innocent!. Although i am sure that is very scary as well-most autistic that i have come into contact with express extreme discomfort or fear to some sort of stimulus-although the cause of this panic can be as different and as variable as the weather!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

It really comes down to how do you define "normal" and so much will depend on how well educated an individual may be when it comes to autism or autism spectrum disorders!.

One must keep in mind, autism is a spectrum disorder symptoms may be very mild unnoticeable or very severe!.

On the otherhand, I often see Fragile X, but that is because my Fragile X filter is on, I'll see the elongated face, I may see ears and foreheads that are more pronounced!. But my fragile X experience has also taught me that these physical characteristics are not uncommon to the general population, many individuals may have a long face, or larger ears and they don't have fragile X and many individuals with Fragile X may not exhibit this feature - especially females!.

If there is one characteristic that I notice often in children or adults with an ASD or Fragile X it will be how they avoid eye contact with individuals they are unfamiliar with!. My son has excellent eye contact with me but I often notice how he averts his eye contact with unfamiliar people, but this trait can also be exhibited in individuals who suffer from social anxiety and those who may be introverts!.

Now I wouldn't call anything "abnormal" because I believe we each define our own normal!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

Well personally, having an autistic cousin, I don't notice anything "abnormal"!. I feel like that word really shouldn't be applied to autism!. My cousin, although he may learn differently and lacks basic social skills, is a highly intelligent, and really charming kid to be around!. Every autistic child or person is different, as is any human being!.Www@Answer-Health@Com
