Why did my GP ask me this?!

Question: Why did my GP ask me this!?
I have been on efexor for nearly 5 weeks!. Last week i seen my GP and she asked me if i had any side effects, i side no, none that i noticed!. She asked me did things get stuck in my throat a lot!. I hesitated because i do but not that often so i said no, but i have noticed it happening more, i guess i never would have linked the two!. I am just wondering why she would ask that question!?

I will ask her at my next appointment but that probably won't be for a week or so and was just wondering if anyone else on efexor or another anti-depressant had this problem or was asked this question!.

thanksWww@Answer-Health@Com

Good question!. Dysphagia (difficulty swallowing) is a side effect of Effexor, but it isn't super common!. Seems odd that your doctor would ask!. If she meant dry mouth, seems like she would have just asked you if your mouth was dry!. Maybe she's had a lot of patients with that complaint or something!.

If she did mean dry mouth, it's important that you keep your mouth not dry in order to keep your teeth healthy!. Brush at least twice a day, use Biotene, drink lots of water, and chew sugar-free gum!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

hmm stupid doctor has now given you something to notic!.!.!. it probably happened alot to you but you got used to it!.!.!. now your doctor has mentioned it you are more likely to be aware of this and may even subconsily be causing your throat to consrtict when swallowing so it feels like it is getting jammed! mention this to her as it was stupid of her to make yo aware!Www@Answer-Health@Com

I get a very dry mouth on Amitriptylene!. Sometimes when I am eating the food feels like it struggles to travel down the oesophagus!. I find that if I drink plenty of fluids while I am eating then it doesn't happen as much!. I also suck citrus sweets as a way of getting saliva in the mouth!.

It might give you some help but remember that a lot of these side effects do not happen to everyone!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

I know one of the common side-effects of anti-depressants is a dry mouth!. So I imagine the absorption of saliva makes it more difficult to swallow!.Www@Answer-Health@Com
