The best way to help someone with an eating disorder?!

Question: The best way to help someone with an eating disorder!?
Ok so my ex-girlfriend invited me over to talk the other day!. We went out for eight months and I ended it for personal reasons!. A year later she comes to me and tells me that she is bulimic!. I feel awful because I know that it is bad for her!. She is smart and knows it bad for her and has tried to make herself better!. How can I help!?!? I won't be able to see her after summer is over and I don't want her to relapse at all!. I want to support her but I don't want her to think I still have feelings for her!. Thanks for your answers!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

Answers:
us girls are often bulimic because we're scared of things in our lives, and this is a way to have some control over what seems to be an out-of-control world!.

if you REALLY want to help her, then don't accept that her bulimia is the central problem!. instead, it's likely the symptom, the expression of something else!.

just let her talk, let her set the speed, and she might (might not) open up to you!.

also, make sure you keep in mind one central notion !.!.!. human behaviour is almost always for a reason!.

when SHE gets her head around the reason (not you) then she'll be making progress!.

your job is to be patient, and to be supportive, and to listen!. let her do the work!. you're the sounding-board so that she can learn about herself!.

you cannot help if you try to be her "fixer"!. it just doesn't work that way!. you can tell her the "answer" and she won't hear it!. the answer has to come from with HER!.

but it's proper and ethical for you to keep her pointed toward professional help!. this is a really tough problem that may take years to resolve!.

if she gets worse (yes that can happen) you have to know your limit and when to call for IMMEDIATE & EMERGENCY medical care!.

best of luck!. you're a good man for being sensitive to her condition / situationWww@Answer-Health@Com

this is not your responsibility!. you can be her friend but be firm in letting her know that she is ill and needs to get help or she risks dying!. perhaps it will help you to understand that people with eating disorders (mostly women) feel out of control in their lives and this is one area over which they have full control!. they have a warped self-image and see fat where there is none, and they feel satisfaction when they binge and purge!. truly she needs help and may struggle with this for a long time!. it's an addiction!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

try to find a support group in your area!.Www@Answer-Health@Com
