I need an antidepressant but don't want lower sex drive/weight gain?!

Question: I need an antidepressant but don't want lower sex drive/weight gain!?
I'm a recovering bulimic, age 21, in college!. Currently I'm dealing with a lot of hard stuff (long term boyfriend just joined military, loneliness, summer classes, working, managing bulimia symptoms, preparing for grad school applications and GRE, etc!.)!. I was put on Prozac for the bulimia and depressive tendencies in March, but experienced some minor suicidal ideation, and my shrink took me off of it!. The Prozac worked well to lift my mood and help me deal with emotions more positively, but the many side effects (no sex drive, slight weight gain/increased appetite, awful dreams, nausea, sleepiness, etc!. etc!.)!. The Prozac also put an stop to my purging, but my binges got much worse!. I'm paying out of pocket, so my shrink recommended I try Celexa next because it's cheap, but I haven't heard anyone say good things about the sex drive/weight gain side effects of that SSRI!.

What should I do!?Www@Answer-Health@Com

You might want to ask about Cymbalta and Lexapro!. Not all side effects affect everyone the same way!. I was on Lexapro and had suicidal thoughts but had been on Prozac in the past and it was great for me!. It didnt decrease my sex drive in fact it increased it!. You are going to just have to try a few didfferent kinds before you find the right one that works for you!. And remember that it takes a few weeks for these drugs to get into your system and really work!. Also some of teh side effect might go away!. Good Luck to you!Www@Answer-Health@Com

Talk to your doctor!. Explain that you liked the medication, the dosage was good, blah blah blah, and you just don't want the side effects!. Different meds effect different people in different ways!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

Do not take Celexa if you don't want to lower your sex drive!. While I was on it, I actually lost weight (many people gain though) but in terms of sex drive!? Heh!. Not much!. It makes you so tired you just want to sleep all the time and, for starters, you're usually too tired for sex!. Celexa can also cause suicidal ideation and I experienced it as well!.Www@Answer-Health@Com
