Do I have OCD...? Please help me?!

Question: Do I have OCD!.!.!.!? Please help me!?
Hi there,
have tried talking to my psychiatrist about this, but he seems more concerned about my Bipolar disorder and I'm not sure he really understood what I meant!.!.!.

I have a fear of certain foods like cooked foods that are cold (cold pizza), stuff that's mixed like lasagne, all meat and fish, all curry and rice, anything ''foreign'' or spicy like chinese and indian food, and I mostly live off pasta and potatoes!.!.!. I've also got this extreme fear of germs!. If someone in my house has a cold, I'll go around disinfecting the tv remote, door handles or anything else I touch!. If one of my friends says they feel sick I'll have a huge panic attack about it and try to avoid talking to them!. At home before I get a drink I will re-wash all the cups in the cupboard before using them, and I can never eat out or at a friend's house!.!. It's completely controlling my life!.!.!. I've got a huge fear of getting food poisoning too!. And I have 'lucky numbers', so I can only take the food out at 8:03!.!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

Hi

It does sound from what you have described that you could be suffering from OCD!.

My suggestion would be to take along what you have written here, as you seem to have explained it very well, next time you go for an appointment with your psychiatrist!. Or if you can think of anything else than write that down as well!. Ask him to read it it will make things much clearer for him and hopefully he will realise that this is having an impact on your daily living!.

I know how hard psychiatric appointments can be, you don't always remember what you wanted to say or put it across in the best way!. So I always think writing things down is a great help!.

Hope this helps!.

Take care and good luck!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

Wow!.!.!. You can consider having OCD!. But you might just have a fear of being sick!. You might think cold foods could have bacteria on them that could harm you or that mixed foods might have a sick taste, or that meats would have some disease!.

So you might just have a fear of being sick and not having OCD!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

Yes you sure sound like you do!. Ever seen the TV show "Monk" well he has severe OCD, you sound like you have a moderate version of it, but keep going to a psychiatrist and if the one you have doesn't listen find another!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

I have OCD and I went through a phase where I had a huge fear of contamination, especially by food!.

You sound like you definately have OCD!. Are you on an SSRI!? That would help a ton!. You need to talk to your psychiatrist again about this!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

I am not a psychiatrist, so I can't really answer this question!. I would definitely talk to your psychiatrist about it!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

Yikes, you need to drink more beer!Www@Answer-Health@Com

You just have Misophobia or Mysophobia - Fear of being contaminated with dirt or germs!.

or

Spermatophobia or Spermophobia- Fear of germs

or

Verminophobia- Fear of germs!.

Cold food has the most germs, and mixed stuff has a greater chance of germs too!.

it would be an OCD if you would always go around cleaning if you thought of germs!. Hmm eating at a certain time seems like an OCD too!.

i would go back to your doctor, with a list of things you believe is wrong with you!. That way you dont have to remember whats wrong and not tell them everything!.

He can go through the list and ask you about them, and you can fully explaine why its on the list!.

I hope this helps, fear is the mind killer!.

It does sound like you might have a moderate form of ocd, I think the best thing to do is to explain calmly to your psychiatrist how these problems are effecting your quality of life and adding to any difficulties in coping with your other disorder, psychiatrists often tend to concentrate on what they see as your primary problem and forget that these other things make it more difficult for you to deal with that disorder!. Maybe also talk to your GP about it, maybe he/she can help put the point across to your psychiatrist, good luck:)Www@Answer-Health@Com

I really can't tell as I am not a doctor only a nurse, but it sounds like OCD!. It seems that you have rituals that need to be followed!. I would talk to him once again and tell him how concerned you are about this!. It is sometimes had to detect as It could just be a fear phobia of germs!. I wish you luck!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

I think you are germaphobic!. I also think you have ocd!. But to be honest, I stopped making excuses for myself and my ocd ended, because it was all in my head!. I used to collect baseball cards and every time there was a scratch i'd as people 10+ times if there was a scratch, somtimes i'd ask them 10+ times even there wasn't a scratch!. But now, I'm like who really gives a flyin fock!. I'm sure it's not as easy for everyone to get over but oh well!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

You certainly have many symptoms that'd suggest a diagnosis o OCD!. It seems that Bipolar and OCD are often, but not always linked!.
I'd suggest that you ask your psychiatrist for a referral to a therapist to help with your OCD, there are lots of things a skilled therapist can do to help!.
In the meantime try a book called Overcoming Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder by David Veale and Rob Willson !.It'll help you understand what's going on!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

Hi, yes I would say you certainly do!
My dad has had ocd for the last 17 yrs and I am quite knowledgeable on the subject! I would ask if you can have soem prozac for it, as it is supposed to help!
If your dr doesn't listen, change him! good luck! it is not the end of the world! My dad has been very very bad, but he has learned to live with it and copes well and is happy! My friend that has it copes well on prozac! I have another friend with it but i can't remember what she is on! She copes well too!Www@Answer-Health@Com

well bro its sounds like you do, the symptoms you stated sound like ocd!. have you tried like taking deep breaths before eating at restaurants, or at frineds houses!. i have heard that meditating for about half an hour every day, can slowly ease away tension brought by ocd!. pal sounds like you got a great MONK case!. but relax, its curable tell your psychiatrist, that you feel that your ocd, is far more severe than your biopolarness!. if she is ignoring you, drop her and have your insurance switch to another psychiatrist,, she shouldnt push away your problems to help her get more money!. good luck pal!. and hey dont stress about it!. its a phase, it never last for more tahn 3 years!.Www@Answer-Health@Com
