Help with cutting problem???!

Question: Help with cutting problem!?!?!?
I'm 17 years old and have been cutting for 3 years now!. It wasn't a big deal at first, but over a year ago I found myself in an extremly dark and suicidal depression!. Suddenly my cutting became a major addction for me due to an abusive realtionship I was in ( It lasted for over a year, but I'm out of it now)!. I couldn't go a day without cutting!.
Long story short, I'm seeing a therapist on a regular basis now and I'm in a really caring and loving realtionship!. It's been a month since I last cut (yay!)!. The thing is, my boyfriend (as well as best friend) is going to be going off to college in a couple of months and I don't know how I'm going to be able to deal with that!. My therapist has tried to give me coping meganisams to use in place of the cutting, but none of them work!. Does anyone have any tips I could use in place of cutting!? Would be much appreciated!Www@Answer-Health@Com

I've been cutting for a while now too and just recently tried to stop!.
Basically, you can only help!. I always thought that seeking advice and stuff from therapists doesn't help!. Haha!.!.!.but, you should talk to someone very close to you about it!.

And for coping mechanisms!.!.!.do you have any hobbies!? For me, I draw, Skate, Listen to music, Read, exercise, scrapbooking and building stuff! Find things that you like to do, stuff you can work to improve on!. There is a better life, but you have gotta find it!. You CAN find it;!. I know this for sure because I've made the choice to stop living in darkness!. Let me know how it goes! =)Www@Answer-Health@Com

One tip I got from a friend who had a cutting addiction is that it helps to find something you love so much that you won't cut because of it!. For her, it was a sport she found she loved to compete in, which she couldn't do if she had cuts on her arms!. And it sounds like your relationship with your therapist could be good motivation, too--and your boyfriend's relationship, even if he's not physically present!.

Good luck! :)Www@Answer-Health@Com

Try doing something fun and enjoyable!. thats what people tell me to do!. Im 13 and i just had my heartbroken ive been cutting since this guys broke my heart!. (it explains in one of my questions on my account)
i no how you feel!. since im in a similar situation except im not seeing a therapist cuz im too scared to!.
but i really hope everything works out for youWww@Answer-Health@Com

Some cutters (I don't know if this applies to you) like to see their own blood and that's why they cut!. Fill up your sink and take a red food coloring dropper (anything thats not a dropper won't work), and pour drops into the sink!. It looks like blood, and has the same effect of blood in water!. Just try it!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

hold ice on ur wrists!. your wrists will go cold and start to really hurt and it feels like your cutting coz the pain is pretty intense and the longer you hold it there the more its hurts!. and that way no scars or anything!.

hope i helped !.Www@Answer-Health@Com

First off, be positive about it!. Tell yourself you will be fine because if you sit there and worry about it, it will be a lot easier to fall back into your old ways!. You have to think about the people you love and care for and the ones that love and care for you as well!. Do you think they want to see you doing this to yourself!? How would they feel if they knew you had cut because they weren't around!? If you think about how others will feel, it will be harder for you to cut!. I've been there and that keeps me from doing it!.

Also, what do you enjoy!? For me, even though I'm 20, I LOVE puzzles and coloring and drawing and stuff like that!. Find something simple that you love!. Get into photography or baking or something!. It will help you take your mind off things if you're productive with your free time!.

If you find it absolutly impossible to refrain, this might be a long shot, but try donating plasma!. You will be able to feel a little bit of the pain and you'll get to see your own blood, but you'll get paid for it!. I know how crazy that sounds, but when you have an addiction like cutting, crazy seems to always work!.

Good luck and congrats on refraining for so long!Www@Answer-Health@Com
