Anxiety--what to do? will it work?!

Question: Anxiety--what to do!? will it work!?
Hey!. I have extreme, overwhelming anxiety pretty much all the time and I'm trying to figure out the best way to improve it!. To give you a little background, I am 19 yrs old have and had a fairly tumultous childhood (my parents were arrested and charged with neglect when I was 10, my mom was an alcoholic, my dads angry, our house was rundown with bugs and rats, etc!.!.)!. I have always felt inferior to other people!. I have pretty major social anxiety (I have no friends and can barely make eye contact sometimes)!. I also have general anxiety about everything including driving, airplanes, my future, etc!.!. I tend to always think of the worst case scenario!. I am rarely at ease unless I am in a very familiar situation!. Im also about 100lbs overweight which I'm sure leads to low self esteem (I've already lost 20lbs so I'm working on that)!. Im thinking about going to therapy but I even have anxiety about that!. What kind of therapy do you think would work!? group!? indivual!? anything else!?Www@Answer-Health@Com

I am happy for you that you are working on loosing your weight and working towards being healthy!. I just hope you are doing it the right way by exercising and eating healthy instead of not eating and starving yourself :)

If you are exercising you will see that you mood and general anxiety may improve!.

You should definitely see a therapist!.!.!. you mentioned that you have social anxiety so maybe you should go for individual counseling at first and then maybe move to a group therapy, which will also help you with your social anxiety problems!.

I think you are moving towards the right direction!
Best of luck :)

EDIT-----
It is nice to hear you are doing it the right way!
Both kind of therapies individual or group are beneficial!. Just choose any and go with it!.!. I think most of us are nervous and anxious before starting therapy and it does take courage to start!.!.!. but once you do and give it some time it will all be good! No therapy would be too intimate you are allowed to go at your own pace and you will be comfortable :)Www@Answer-Health@Com

go to therapy!. but as a matter of group or individual they both have perks!. ie: with a group you have other people you can relate to, idividually there are less people which could make you less anixious(sp!?)!. which ever you feel more comfortable with!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

focus on your goals and your self esteam!. be happy and dont let society tell you what to do and how to feel!. be strong and i am hear for you!. i also have the nasty a word myslfWww@Answer-Health@Com

Is there a history of mental illness in your family !?Www@Answer-Health@Com

I would say that seeking counselling is a good idea!. I realize you might have some anxieties about that too, and believe me when I say, everyone does initially!. But once you find a counsellor that you like, and eventually begin to trust, you can both work out a plan to try and help you overcome your anxieties!.
If you are a student in college or are working you should check with the school/employer because they may have plans in place to get you counselling for free!. Most colleges/universities have ones that are free to students, and many employers will pay for the service, and it's confidential!.

Until you are able to see someone, I suggest keeping a journal!. Whenever you start to panic or feel anxious, write it down!. Write down where you are, who was there, what happened right before that, what you were thinking about, etc!. Write down as many details as you can!. Eventually you may start to see a pattern in why you get those anxious feelings!. Knowing what triggers it is the first way to combat overcoming it!.

Hope that helps!.Www@Answer-Health@Com
