I have... have you?!

Question: I have!.!.!. have you!?
I have, previously, been diagnosed with a major depressive disorder and thought of suicide several times!. (I am fine and dandy now!.)

I thought this was true of pretty much everyone!.!.!. that many people have been diagnosed as depressed at some point, and that almost everyone has had serious suicidal ideations at some point!.

But I was watching television the other day, and the host (who also suffers from depression and suicidal thoughts) said that he thought everyone felt depressed/suicidal at times, and that he was surprised when his psychiatrist told him that most people actually don't!. The host called it "writer's syndrome", I believe, but that's probably just a term he made up!.

Anyway, my question is this: are serious depression and suicidal ideations pretty common, or am I mistaken in thinking that it has happened to everyone!?Www@Answer-Health@Com

I know many people who have never thought of suicide!. The thought of death would terrify them!. Not to exist----shocking!

Being depressed or a little down, however, is very common!. But more than just a few days----time to get some help!.

Perhaps you thought that everyone has suicidal ideations because you think on terms of yourself first and not others!. Many, many people do this------they assume that others think like them!. Therapy will help you develop your ability to self reflect and learn the need to stop comparing yourself to others, to focus on your goals in life, to be a better listener for friends and a host of many other learned techniques for a better life!.

Nothing has helped me lift depression as much as eating healthy and working out!

Good luck to you!. It's helps to know others care!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

I think a lot of people get really sad and say or wish they were dead!. Then the thought is gone right away!. There is a huge difference to being sad and having clinical depression!.

I myself have attempted suicide and still have thoughts of it all the time!. Although it has affected millions of people I wouldn't go as far as saying it has been on every ones mind!. Most people go through life's ups and downs without the thought of suicide!.

I'm glad you over came your fight with depression and wish you all the best!

Take care and don't give up!Www@Answer-Health@Com

I think it's happend to everyone! I mean, I don't know one person who hasn't been depressed at least once!. Who hasnt thought of dying as well!? It's all in the humans nature!. I've thought of it multiple times, and I'm glad that you're dandy now! I wish I was!.!.!.but yes!. You're right!. No human is perfect there for, no human hasnt thought of their death or has never been deeply sad!. Good luck & Have a nice day! *hugs*Www@Answer-Health@Com

Feeling sad is one thing, but being severely depressed is another!! Yes, of course everyone has been sad before, but I think it's ABSOLUTELY ludicrous to say everyone has been severely depressed and has suicidal thoughts! If that statement is true, then our world is in a sad state of affairs!. Also, the statement that "suicide runs in my family" is absolutely ridiculous!. Suicide is not a genetic disorder, it's a conscious decision that somebody makes!. Now, don't get me wrong, I'm not discounting anyone who has ever had a serious mental disorder!. I do believe that it's a real condition and that people suffer from it!. However, that being said, I think that the diagnosis of depression is thrown around WAY TOO much for people who are just sad, or are not happy with their position, or what they've accomplished in their lives!. Life is not easy for anyone and it takes a lot of hard work and perseverance to be successful in this world!. I think that many people just don't have the mental fortitude to put in the work!. I think that way too often people play the "depression" card as an excuse for their shortcomings in life!. People don't want to take responsibility for their own mistakes and failures!. Again, this is not a shot at people who are TRULY suffering from depression, but just like any other serious medical condition in this world; The number of people who never suffer from it far outweighs the people who do!.Www@Answer-Health@Com
