Depression divides into 2 types, though there is a grey area of overlap between them!.

Endogenous depression, or depression from within!. This is caused by biochemical deficiencies and imbalances in the brain, mainly involving brain amines!. 5HT is one of the identified substances!. These patients may have no life problems and are often either totally unable to explain why they are depressed or attempt to pin their depression on to something as a rationalisation!. This type of disease sometimes does improve with time, but generally does require medication!.

Exogenous depression, or depression from outside, sometimes called reactive depression!. This is due to the effects of life events or circumstances on the patient!. It does respond to an extent to the more modern antidepressant, but tends to respond better to therapy sessions!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

The best non-medical treatment around is cognitive-behavioural therapy!. It is a way to change your thinking patterns and overt behaviour!. Those self-help books are often a cheap imitation!.

First, always have a professional confirm it is depression!. There are many conditions which mimic depression!.

Then you try to repeat to yourself positive thinking/attitude statements!. Try to be positive, while acknowledging that your emotions are sometimes warranted (learning that balance takes time)!. Force yourself to remain active, physically and socially, even if you don't want to!. Even when you don't like it anymore, you have to continue doing the things you once enjoyed until you learn to be happy again!.

Sometimes you have to fake it until you make it!.

(and do not immediately discount medication!. There can be biological factors, and these should be discussed with medical/psychology/psychiatry professionals!.)Www@Answer-Health@Com

Having someone to talk to - counselling if possible!.

Exercise also helps in the long run (physiological)!.

Firstly you must understand that a thought is just a thought and nothing more, nothing less!. Also, depends on what your depression is being caused by, often you can reduce depression if given the correct means!.!.!. but also, depression will eventually fade away regardless!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

Getting into more hobbies, putting more effort into anything you do!.!.!. and staying away from mental junkfood!. Don't do things to kill time, read more books, get more in touch with whatever side of the brain you use most!. (If you're creative, create more!. If you're more logical, study and question more)

Also, (stereotypical, I know) excercise!. Getting your metabolism up by eating more light meals througout the day, and just being more active in everything you do (could be as simple as dancing while you clean, doing 5 push-ups every hour or so) gets your energy up too!. It's difficult to feel depressed and hyper at the same time!. Well, they call that antsy, but that's easily remedied by getting out!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

Therapy!. There are all kinds of therapies such as Cognitive Behavioural Therapy, Neural Linguistic, Programming, Hypnosis, Emotional Freedom Technique etc!. I have been using EFT which has really helped with my anxiety depression!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

Cognitive behavioural therapy, positive thinking, exercise!. Exercise is very overlooked, it boosts mood and releases feel good 'endorphins' which give you a natural high!. St Johns Wort is a herbal remedy that I believe is quite succesful!. The best combination would probably be a positive mental attitude, plenty of exercise, a good diet, and if that dosen't work, head to your GP!. Try meditation too, it can work wonders!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

Positive mental attitude!. Stop yourself from over thinking situations and making you depressed!. Try your hardest to block out negative thinking!. Its really hard to do sometimes, I know!.
Also try exercising!. Your brain will feel refreshed and so will your emotions!. Go out on walks, go to the park with your friends, go swimming!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

The meds did not help me
finding someone to talk to will help!.
Try and do one thing a day ANYTHING
stay away from tea and coffee
excercise
go for a walk can be really good , see all thats going on around you,
I have found meditation very helpful ,with practise ,you learn to ground yourself , the negative thoughts are still there, but the meditation lets them slip away without taking hold of you
Negative thoughts equal negative feelings, awareness is the key!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

I am a bit Bipolar, by a bit I mean a lot!.!.

My Brother was too and at the age of 42 he took his life!.!.!

The difference between us is simply one of faith!. I love Jesus, my brother never got it!.!. (something I regret every day and it wasn't for the lack of trying)

I have never taken a single medication to deal with my disorder, I simply rely on the Lord!. I am not saying it's going to work for you, but it does for me, so maybe give it a try!.

Remember, satan runs this domain and he loves to make us feel bad!Www@Answer-Health@Com

Seeing a therapist helps more than I can begin to describe!.
