I don't know if it's possible to get rid of the accent--they say that it remains if you learn a language after a certain age, like for my grandmother who has lived in the U!.S!. most of her life!. But the mumbling can be fixed, I'm guessing, if you practice projecting your voice and speaking confidently!.

It sounds to me like self-consciousness and anxiety is your main issue!. It probably makes you feel like you stick out more and look bad, even if you look perfectly normal--I used to have the same thing when I was younger!. I would worry about looking bad in every little thing I did, like walking funny, etc!.!. Finding a close friend might help you deal with this!. Another thing that helped for me was paying attention to how I think of other people--I realized that if someone has an accent or if someone trips, I don't think they look bad at all just because of that!. So why would other people think that of you!?

Hope this helps!. :)Www@Answer-Health@Com

Hi
Sounds like you would benefit from speech therapy!. Just put "speech therapy" into a web search, there are loads of sites, and they have discussion boards where you can share your problems with others!.

You might have a speech impediment, and a speech and language therapist would practice with you to train your mouth to make the sounds differently!. Have you tried your local library for any resources like books or cds!?

It also sounds like you are low in confidence and socially shy and this can also cause speech problems!. Don't let your accent stop you from speaking in school, you have every right to be heard like everyone else!.

You can get rid of an accent, it might take time but you need to practice around people who sound like you want to!. I listened to a recording of my voice from when I was a little kid and I had a terrible accent, but as I've grown up and lived in differents areas with different people, my accent has changed!.
