I actually have OCD too!. I totally obsess over every little detail!. I can stop soem fo the habbits, but it drives me crazy when i do!. Just try to liek ween yourself off the habbits, and you will eventually get used to not havign that as a habbit!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

I have OCD and I name my OCD habits as OCD habits and I don't have to do them!. Remembering what they are that they are OCD habits helps me to think that nothing is going to happen if I don't do them!. I think that knowing nothing is going to happen if I don't do the habit is what helps me most in not doing them!. I count a lot and I am continuely having to tell myself that is OCD and I don't have to count and it works!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

I guess either (1) substitute for another compulsion or (2) just force yourself not to do it!.

I think #2 is the best way to go!. Get a parent or friend in on it or something!. Like lets say you have to check the sink to make sure the water is turned off before leaving the house!. Get them to make you leave the house without doing it!. I know it's hard to just decide not to do something, but I think it's the best way!. Force yourself!. You'll be miserable and anxious about it, but eventually you may realize the world is still spinning even if the tap water wasn't checked!.

I think that's what a lot of therapy is about, slowly showing you it's okay not to do things!. I used to check that my car lights went out at night, now rarely!. It just got to the point where I was like "Really commagirl, who gives a sh*t if the lights are on!? They never are, likely will never be on either, and if they are, so what!. You'll just have to jump start your battery tomorrow!."

Just think about your habits and why they are so ridiculous!. Is it that bad if you don't wash your hands more than once!? Remind yourself how much bacteria you come into contact with already!. The moment you wipe your hands on that towel, there's going to be more!. Or think about how if you weren't exposed to a little bit of bacteria, your immune system would be weak!.

So just seriously start over-thinking all of your habits and force yourself to not do them every so often!.

Work on your stress level too!. Stress makes OCD worse!. Try exercising!.

OCD!. There is a quiz for this, in section 1 (psychological tests) in ezy build, below!. If it takes up more than an hour, daily, gets worse, or interferes with your life to any great degree; seek therapy, because it can quickly take over a person's life!. See section 7, on OCD, at ezy build, below and also view section 6, since some consider to be an anxiety related disorder!.

Practice one of the relaxation methods on pages 2, 11, 2c, or 2i, daily, and when needed!. Also, give the EFT a good tryout, to see if it helps you!. There is also a version for use in public places, (if you like, you can claim to have a headache, as you massage/lightly tap your temples)!. "Even though I suffer from OCD, I deeply and completely accept myself!." Section 53, and pages 2, 2!.q and 2!.o at http://www!.ezy-build!.net!.nz/~shaneris also refer!.

(The following is a variant of EMDR therapy, which has been used successfully for those people suffering from Post Traumatic Stress Disorder, insomnia, and anxiety: it is easily learned, quick to use, yet can be very effective!. Such apparantly unusual techniques are easy to dismiss, out of hand, but give it a good tryout, because I use it every day)!. Prior to using either of the methods in the above paragraph, first sit comfortably, and take a deep breath!. Then, without moving your head, move your eyes from the left, to the right, and back again, taking around a second to do so (say: a thousand and one: this takes approximately a second)!. Repeat this procedure (without the words, although you can count, subvocally if you like) 20 times!. Then close your eyes and relax!. Become aware of any tension or discomfort you feel!.

Then open your eyes, and take another deep breath, and repeat step one, closing your eyes, and relaxing afterwards, in the same manner!. Then, repeat the procedure one last time!. Some people may find that this is all they need do!. Some people may find that this is all they need do!. With experience, you may find that you can practise this in public, with your eyes closed, which greatly widens the window of opportunity for its use, and avoids attracting unwanted attention!. It markedly reduces distractions, during the relaxation techniques, which makes them more effective, and rewarding!.

Because OCD is considered to be related to anxiety, try getting yourself some "worry beads", (ask at a religious supplies store, Catholic church, or Muslim mosque) and deliberately replace your former activity with moving them about between, or around your fingers: it takes about 30 - 40 reps, for most people to instill a new habit!. A stress ball, or even squeezing a tennis ball is an option!.Www@Answer-Health@Com
