Could I please ask a question about treat-resistant depression?!

Question: Could I please ask a question about treat-resistant depression!?
I have had several bouts of very severe depression which completely incapacitated me, but I also suffer from on-going depression on a lower level which impacts my life greatly!. I am currently taking Celexa, having tried all the other usual anti-depressants!. My psychiatrist has told me she will (if I agree) add another psych!. med to the Celexa which she said might help!. It has two names lamotrigine and lamictal!. I have read all about it on the net and it was first developed for stopping seizures, and is now used for other things such as bi-polar depression which I do not have!. They find it has also helped people with unipolar depression which I have!.The side effects sound quite bad to me!. I have headaches regularly and it is one of the main ones!. Have any of you out there had any luck with having another RX added to your anti-depressant!? Would you be kind enough to tell me whether you have had good luck with any additional meds added!.Please Help me!Www@Answer-Health@Com

Answers:
give lamictal serious, serious consideration!.
i am bipolar, however know unipolar people who have benefited from it!.
it literally saved my life!. i'd be dead by now if it wasn't for lamictal, seriously!. my bipolar disorder was so bad and out of control!

i never had a single bad side effect!.

abilify is another to consider!. it has been approved for bipolar mania, however is VERY CLOSE to being FDA approved to treat bp depression as well!. it's great in that regard, better than it is in treating mania!. i take it too and it's a wonder pill!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

lamictal is used for young children and for pregnant women!. Most people have more than 1 medication!. I was very suprised when I read your question (I am rarely suprised) when I got to the part of only one med for treat resistant depression!. I thought the question was going to be about ECT (electro convulsive therapy)Www@Answer-Health@Com

A lot of people with depression take more than one antidepressant!. I take Effexor and Wellbutrin!. I have taken Lamictal, and for me it was a very effective mood stabilizer!. The side effects can sound scary, but I never had any side effects from it, and I know several other people who take it and have had a good experience with it!. Good luck!Www@Answer-Health@Com

Hi, I am taking Lamictal with Effexor and I'm doing ok!. Not as good as I'd like, but better than I was!. I don't have any side effects that are unbearable, at first I had slight headaches but that has gone away!. Having treatment resistant depression sucks - I know exactly where you are coming from!.
Give it a try if your doc thinks it's ok, it might really help you!. If not you can always quit it!.
Good luck and I hope you are feeling better soon!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

A lot of people are being helped by Lamictal!. That said, I HATE it!. I didn't have a headache or anything like that!. But slowly over time, my personality just completely disappeared!. I was lazy, forgetful, and then my hair started thinning badly!.
my friends and family were constantly asking if I was ok, and I had lost touch with reality so much that I thought I was ok! I threw up daily, started bruising and because it was my very first psych med I accepted it as normal!.
After this went on for a year and a half, I relocated and a new doctor put me on Wellbutrin to counter some effects and slowly weaned me off Lamictal!. It was truly like a fog lifted!. and after 6 months or so, I felt like myself again!. In restrospect I don't even really remember much from the time I was on it--I was that blunted!.
My experience is not the norm, but let me strongly encourage you to monitor yourself closely if you take Lamictal and lat a few trusted friends know as well, so they can tell you if you are slipping!.
I certainly don't want to scare you, but I feel strongly that this med is being prescribed too casually!.
Have you tried an SNRI with your Celexa!?
I wish you all the best and hope you'll be feeling better :)Www@Answer-Health@Com
