Hello!. So yeah, I'm currently seeing a psychologist and she thinks that I could definitely benefit from medication!. She set an appointment for me to see a psychiatrist, and I was just wondering what that would be like!? Is he going to be more like a doctor!.!.!. and wonder about my physical problems associated with depression and anxiety!.!.!. or will he expect me to tell him pretty much the same stuff I've already told my psychologist!?Www@Answer-Health@Com

The psychologist is there to listen to you!. They help you open up, and help diagnose a disorder!. The psychiatrist helps you find a medication that will help your anxiety and depression!. Usually a psychologist appointment lasts an hour, but the psychiatrist only takes about 15 minutes, longer on the first visit!. He'll ask you how you're feeling to monitor the medications effects on you!. You won't go into as much detail about you anxiety and depression as you would with the psychologist!. When I first saw a psychiatrist, I thought the appointment was short and abrupt, but I realize that he's there to help you cope with a medication, not any theraputic strategies the psychologist would help with!. The psychiatrist usually has a long form about your mental health history, family history, symptoms (physical and emotional), and other basic information!. The appointment with the psychiatrist will feel like a doctor's visit than the psychologist!. He won't ask in depth questions like the psychologist!. He'll most likely stick to the effects the medicine has on you!. You should be detailed with physical and emotional changes so that the psychiatrist can find the right combination of medication for you!. Hope this helps, good luck!Www@Answer-Health@Com

There is a great difference between a psychologist and a psychiatrist!. The main difference being that a psychiatrist IS a doctor, they have the same basic medical training as any other doctor!. Psychiatry is a branch of medicine!. A psychiatrist has to go to uni and serve a time as an intern before going on to study psychiatry!. Their particular branch of medicine is to do with disease and disorders!. Psychiatry means "study of the diseases of the mind"!. This also means that they can prescribe medications!.
Psychology, on the other hand, is the study of the "workings of the mind"!. You don't necessarily have to be a doctor to be a psychologist, although some do have a PhD, which would entitle them to use the title "doctor"!. They cannot prescribe medication!.
Depression will cause physical symptoms and problems!. Like those you see with malnutrition, sleep deprevation, physical problems linked to drug taking (many depressed people will self medicate) or alcohol consumption!. Your doctor (psychiatrist) will want to give you a minor physical, just to ensure that your depression has not affected you too much!. Things such as weight, blood pressure et cetera!.
Medication, in many cases , will ease the symptoms of depression, and will often aid in full recovery!. An individual may be on medication for a short time, or longer depending on how ill they really are!.
Depression is a real clinical illness, and is treated as such!.
Dont be scared of your psychiatrist, they are there to help, and can often help on a different level to your psychologist!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

I've seen both and it was practically the same experience!. I talked to both regarding my anxiety and depression - with the psychologist, he would fax recommended medications to my family doctor - with the psychiatrist, he could write me prescriptions on the spot or provide samples!. One difference is that most of the time, psychiatrists can work with you better to find a medication since you can try samples straight from his/her office and/or they have more experience with medications!. Otherwise, I didn't notice any difference :)Www@Answer-Health@Com

I have seen both (currently still seeing psychologist; love her!)
And it took me 3 different psychiatrists until I found one that was ok!. The first visit is usually background questions just so they can have a foundation!. It's not so scary, but know that if you don't like them for w/e reason, there's more out there and one out there who's right for you!. And yes it's most likely going to be retelling w/e you/ve been telling your current doctor!. I went through 5 psychologists til I found my current one and have been seeing her for 3!.5 years now!.
p!.s!. if you are "diagnosed" with something or given an RX check it all out online and make sure you agree with it! Medicine isn't so bad, but also be careful with that!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

They have pretty much head everything!. You can surprise a psychiatrist who has been in practice more than five minutes!. Just say the truth about what is going on!. I have been treated by psychiatrist for over 17 years and the benefits are very much worth it!. My life is much better because of the good medications that are out there today!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

Actually the first time I saw a psychiatrist he gave me a sheet of questions to answer!. But usually they just prescribe medication or they may ask you a few questions but it isn't much different from seeing the psychologist other than a psychiatrist can prescribe medication and a psychologist can not!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

Your psychiatrist will be much like a psychologist!.!.!.just more objective in his approach!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

same stuff as the psych, mayeb more in depthWww@Answer-Health@Com

He/she will start by asking you about life events and your symptoms of depression and/or anxiety or whatever it is!. He will give you some different scenarios etc!.!.!.well mine did and then after he has an idea of your condition he will ask about drugs you take and those you are allergic to and make some recommendations!. He should go through the options with you and will tell you his reasons for each recommendation and then you'll get a prescription and a follow up appointment (maybe some free samples so you don't have to pay for a prescription while you try the drugs) and you go on your way!. A psychiatrist is definitely more like a doctor than a psychologist in the sense that he is looking at things from a medication perspective and especially if he knows you're being treated by a psychologist!. You won't need to go into such detail with a shrink as you would the psychologist!. I call my psychiatrist my glorified drug dealer because that's mainly what he does is give recommendations and prescriptions for pills!. It's not going to be a terrible experience or anything!. In my case my psychologist recommended the psychiatrist so she provided him with a report before I got there so that I didn't have to start over from the beginning!. Good luck and don't panic - not a big deal at all!.Www@Answer-Health@Com
