I have had the exact same problem!. My mother lies to me and rarely comes home from work, she cheats of my step-dad of which I have to keep a secret, she never spends time with me, my step-dad ignores me and keeps things from me, he and my sister have lashed out before and said I should be taken into foster care - It is all such a nightmare and yes, just like you, I came down with severe depression, along with anxiety and depersonalisation!. I was a wreck, and they denied all!.

I think for you, your parents are still living in denial, and for some (including me) you come to a point that no family counselling or professional advice directed at them is going to change their minds!. My parents for instance blamed all my mental issues on a 'problem within me' and whenever I tried explaining to them why it was them, they demanded that I go take my medication!.

Take my advice and please don't listen to the people who try and stop you from blaming these feelings on your upbringing!. I think they are unaware that certain families can be like this because theirs aren't, and there are unable to empathise in your case!.

Situations like yours are difficult to resolve (I know mine was) and if family counselling and/or a psychiatrist doesn't work, then really the only thing you can do to help YOU is to get away from them!. If you can afford to, move away from where they are and start a fresh on your own keeping them at a distance!. Of course, you need to contact each other every once in a while, but the more you become aquaintances rather than strongly connected family members, the easier it is for you to overcome your depression, and also possibly gain respect for each other!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

Science has yet to discover the one true cause of depression, there are genetic factors if that is what you are referring to!.!.!.!.as for PTSD!.!.if you are saying that your parents abused you in some way, having a confrontation with them and blaming them, won;t help, in the area of mental illness, playing the blame game doesn;t help much, identifing factors of accountability does help, but you need to be able to recognize the difference in the two!.!.!.!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

I think some people throw around the word depression without really having the disorder!. They think they have it and put on an act like they do have it!.
And what's worse I think is that you blame your parents for depression!. I think it's possible but probably the mose insane thing ever!.
I think it's totally rude that you would blame your parents for feeling sad!. Of course they're going to deny it!. You're probably just a kid acting out for attention!. I know far too many people who do/did that and still use these "oh pity me" stories now in adulthood!.
It's time to grow up and quit making excuses for yourself!. I seriously doubt you're depressed, and I even more doubt your parents caused it!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

The best indicator is how s/he react to something similar!. Such as how he reacted when someone told him he's in the wrong!. How does he deal with major stress!? Some people would go in total denial, some would feel guilty!.

There are also other factors you have to take into consideration!. Maybe your parent won't admit it because it may lead to a divorce or scorn from his parents!. Maybe your parent doesn't want to give up his power over you!.

I am sure you've heard about constructive confrontation!. Think of how he can actually help you, or buy a book on parenting for him to read!. Tell him exactly what you want to be done!.

Good lucks!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

Yep!. It's called narcassistic culturism I like to call it!.!.
A lot of parents are like that!.!.because they are after one thing - a successful child who either is able to support his or herself or brings in millions of dollars and becomes famous!.

Pretty messed up huh!? I think it's worse when they try to deny your own feelings!.!.

But a lot of people may tell you that parents are not equipped to deal with that kind of crap; thus go see a doctor!.

I suggest you write a journal or go out some where with friends maybe get a hobby!. Do not have your life rotate around the depression!. If your parents are making you depressed get out of that situation!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

Hi
Im not sure I have an answer about what you should do with your parents but I just have to tell you not to listen to some of the other answers!.
Ok!.!.!.so depression can be caused by a chemical inbalance but also by traumatic experiences!. Dont listen to the people who tell you to stop blaming your parents!.
Ok so some parents give everything they have to their kids and some dont!.
We dont know you and we dont know your parents!. Only you know why you feel this way!.
My advice is to explain to your parents why you think they caused your depression and if they still wont help you go to your doctor by yourself!.!.!. =)
Good LuckWww@Answer-Health@Com

Will I had 3 teen age daughters and they gave me depression!. so should I blame them!. your parents gave you life!. There was no guaranty that you would not come out with problems!. What do you think kids who are born with MS/MD and others should they blame there parents!.
AS parents we love our children and try to do the best we can for as imperfect as we are!. Can you not have a little more sympathy for your parents and quite blaming them for your miss ups!. Grow up and start laughing and enjoying life as you should!. you can not do that if you are looking backwards and wanting to put blame!.Www@Answer-Health@Com
