Question: How do I get over the stress everytime I witness my parents fighting!?!?
I grew up in a very dysfunctional family, I dont' remmeber a single day go by in my childhood thatmy parents wouldn't scream, cry and hurl insults at each other daily!. My dad was and is really verbally abusive and my mom is emotionally abusive!. Imy brother and I basicly spent our youth talking care of our parents emotional needs while they fought and insulted each other and us!. I just witnessed a fight today when my dad came over and I can't take it anymore!!! I have tons of my own issues I'm trying to work out and seeing them fighting or acting like they do just throws me right back to being depressed just when i thought i was coming out of it!. Okay, I live with my mom and there is no way i canmove out until i graduate college which will be in dec!. But until them, I'm sooo stressed out, i can't enjoy my life its driving me crazy!. How do i get some distance from this!? I just stress out sooo much about all of this!. I hate them for being the way they are and I start hating myself!. HelpWww@Answer-Health@Com

Answers:
Sounds like until you can move out, you just have to leave the premises when they are together!. If you don't want to see them fight, then leave!. Walk out the door, make your excuses and go!.

Stop witnessing the fights!. When you finally have your own place, then you can make sure they visit you one at a time, and never fight with them or let them talk to you about the other!.

I have a brother that was the subject of heated conversation most of my life between my parents (all three)!. I finally just got sick of hearing about his dysfunctions and the headaches they all had because of him!. BTW I never got much attention, too much was focused on him, so I have a sore spot with it!.

So now, when the subject of HIM comes around, I politely state that I don't want to hear about it!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

Well, My family is basically the same way!.
I think I reached a point where I couldn't take it, and I just decided I had to not let it get to me!.

If my dad says something, I ignore it because I know he wants me to have some sort of response to it!. I don't spend as much time with them, and I try not to spend much time at home!.

I know it sounds harsh, but if they act like that, they obviously have no respect for me, or even themselves!.Www@Answer-Health@Com
