Self harm I feel like SCREAMING what should I do?!

Question: Self harm I feel like SCREAMING what should I do!?
My friends found out I cut & don't let it go!. They're like "talk to me don't cut" If talking helped I would not be cutting!. It hurts talking about my problems!. They don't know what it's like to wake up & wishing you were dead!. I can't talk to my family because the only thing we do is fight!. I don't want to stop cutting!. I need it!. How do I make them understand!? I'm not emo!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

Answers:
Used to cut pretty much daily!. Don't need it much anymore!. Probably once in six months nowadays!.

They probably will never really understand!. It's like trying to understand what it's like to be a mother without ever having a child--it's a very intensely personal experience!. Heck, every experience with self-injury is different from any other!. Chances are I don't really know what you're feeling either, even if I could come closer than your parents!.

Oh, by the way, if you feel like screaming, for goodness sakes go ahead and scream! The world's pretty crappy sometimes and if you can't get mad at it, you're bound to go a little nuts!.

Good way to talk to parents about it: "This is a way to cope with stress!. Hurting physically is easier than dealing with painful emotions!. I'm trying to learn other ways!."

The teenage years are probably going to be the hardest years of your life!. Don't let them give you that crap about having to work to support yourself and cook your own food!.!.!. that's actually pretty satisfying!. Less strenuous, anyway, than trying to figure out your own personal identity--while dealing with depression on top of it!.

Don't worry about stopping yet--like you said, you still need it!. What you should be doing, though, is (like I said) trying to find other things that serve the same purpose as cutting!. Whatever it is that you need it for, find some other way that doesn't result in scars and social stigma!.!.!. Sooner or later, the more you learn, you won't need to cut much anymore, then not at all!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

They are not your mental health professionals, but they do care about you!. You need serious treatment!. Ask them to focus on getting you help and not about the cutting!. If they whine for twenty years about the cutting, the situation will not change!. The intense drive to cut and the incredible relief you feel can be changed into less pain, less drive and less need for relief!. You are 19, choose help or the next 19 years will be 10x as shitty!. The cutting will stop working, you will find some other relief which will be more dangerous and finally you will be just a tragic statistic!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

once you think about it!.!.!. how does cutting help!? it never solves any your problems!. it actually creates problems!. plus it's not the cutting you're addicted to, it's the endorphins!. exercise also releases the same endorphins as cutting does!. so if you feel like cutting go for a run!. I also think you should get so therapy!. i know it's the last thing you want to do but it will make the ones you love very happy (like your friends)Www@Answer-Health@Com

You're just going to have to do your best at explaining to them or at least trying to make them listen and understand a little!. The problem is they still might not understand, and in that case I think the best thing you could do is just nod along and try to make sure they don't find out!.

Talking does help though!. Once you get past the uncomfortableness and such it definetly does help!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

first, you do not "need to cut"!. second, your friends are right!. talk, don't cut!. this is a temporary solution to a more permanent problem!. quit saying you can't or don't want to quit!. it's an escape and the easy way out!. nothing will change and you'll never feel any better until you face your problems and stop running from them!.Www@Answer-Health@Com
