How can I manage this (OCD symptoms driving me crazy!)?!

Question: How can I manage this (OCD symptoms driving me crazy!)!?
I hate the # 69 b/c of what people make it out to represent!. The "oral sex" idea!. I also hate the # 16 because it reminds me of nose boogers!. The # 16 reminds me of the color of the green boogers & snot!. Maybe because of the "teen"/green rhyme!. I dunno!. & the # 6 sounds sort of like SEX!. I even hate #'s that have 69 or 16 in the last digits!. EX: 96,916 or something like that!.

I listen to music a lot!. When the 16th minute of the hour comes up, I have to either turn it to a song I HATE, or turn off the music completely because I feel like I'd be violating my OCD & doing something wrong by doing something I like @ the # time I hate!.

If I have to be # 69 or 16 in line, or on a roster list, I get upset & almost have an anxiety attack & feel like I'm cursed!. I even hate to go in rooms with those #'s!. & I hate even LOOKING @ those #'s on license plates!. I feel like it's VISUAL abuse!. Yet, I feel the NEED to look @ the license plate of every car!. If I see those #'s ANYWHERE, even if it's a restaurant address, I feel awkward going there because of those #'s!.

1 of my fav!. #'s is 12!. & I also like 8, 15, & 17!. & 3 & 5!. I have quite a bit of fav!. #'s!. But say if it's 569 or 816, I don't like it because it has 16 or 69 in the #!. Now if it's 596 or 861, it's OK!.

I know I'm strange with this!. But I REALLY need advice to cope with the MUSIC issue!. How can I just keep playing the music, even with the bad # of the hour & just be at ease!? I know it's easier said than done, but how can I, you know, play it continuously, & even @ that time & not feel bad about it!?

Thanks for the help!. I'm glad I got this off my chest!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

You're in a world of hurt!. For starters, your SSRI, Luvox, is not the best choice for OCD, Sertraline (Zoloft) has a much better track record and has been studied at doses as high as 400mg/day!. Anecdotally I know of patients on 600mg/day!. SSRIs are very safe and doses can be titrated upward and augmented with secong generation antipsychoyics or Albilify!. Your symtoms are entirely consistent with OCD with primary Obsessions!. The ggod news is that you are very likely to respond to an adequate dose of medication!. Any thought that gets into the OCD loop during an exacerbation will bring you pain!. Sex, religion, and death are the most common obsessions when obsessions are primary to compulsions, which you did not mention!.!. You sound like you have a mix of nunerical & sexual obsession!. When you are not actively obsessing ,is sex (e!.g!. oral) taboo too!. That would be a talk-therapeutic issue!. if your unwanted and intrusive thoughts occur only when you are in the throws of an OCD exacerbation then a very high dose of an SSRI may be your ticket!. I do not like Luvox because it requires multiple dosages per day and it interacts with more drugs than any other SSRI!. Aside from that, ALL SSRI's and the TCA clomipramine (Anafranil) have all demonstrated equal efficacy with OCD!. If you are not on a high dose (higher than recomended maximum) you need to discuss this with your prescriber!. You may also want to search PubMed (Natiuonal Libray of Medicine) for an article titled "High dose sertraline for OCD!." One of the authors is Paul Crits-Christoph so you can search for "Crits-Christoff P!." Some of my colleagues feel more confortable going heavy on the SSRIs after sthe dose had been studied!. Since you are under such stress, you might want to inquire re Buspar instead of Wellbutrin which potentiates other antidepressants for depressiom but not for OCD!. If you live near a large university I would go to their psych clinic for treatment!. They are usually the most progressive!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

Trust me when I say you're NOT strange! I know exactly how you feel, I have a problem with numbers too!.
I would go and talk to you doctor about it, because they can prescribe some medicine to help you cope with it all!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

In addition to medication and therapy one thing you could try is this: put a rubber band on your wrist and every time that you have a thought like this you snap the rubber band!. It's like retraining your brain!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

You should get some OCD medication!. You should see a doctor for the prescription!.

I take medication also to keep my job & function in life!. You might need the same!.

Good luck!!Www@Answer-Health@Com

Are you on medication!? In therapy!?Www@Answer-Health@Com

You know, you can choose to ignore the clock and stop obsessing over the numbers!. The devil wants you to be miserable, and he'll use whatever it takes to pester you till you feel crazy!. Turn the tables on him!. Go an entire week without looking at the time!. (Set alarms ahead of time so you don't miss stuff!.) Learn to like those numbers!. Pursue them!. Eat 16 crackers, do 69 jumping jacks!. Whatever!. You can control this if you try!. Don't let the devil win!. I personally dislike prime numbers!. I have no idea why!. I just choose not to think about them!. Now they never bother me!.Www@Answer-Health@Com
