Answers:
Taking anti-depressants is nothing to be ashamed of!. If you have a chemical imbalance that causes you to have depression, it's no different than having high cholesterol and needing medication to monitor it!. If your Mom is suggesting them, talk to your doctor about it!. !. !.your being afraid of her reaction is your issue, not hers!. You need to be concerned about YOU first- make yourself a priority here!. !. !.you are worth it!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

Your mum should be trying to talk you out of getting anti-depressants, not trying to convince to get them!. Anyway, most doctors won't just dish out pills to a young person!. You first have to realise why you are depressed, and your mum should at least talk to you about it!.

You say that you know for a fact you can't overcome depression naturally!. How do you know!? Have you tried!? Have you seen a counsellor, or spoken to a close friend!? Are you depressed for a reason, e!.g!. schoolwork, bullying, low self-esteem, or are you depressed for no reason that you can think of!?

Your mum doesn't sound as though she's being very supportive, and if you're worried that she might be ashamed of you for that reason, or in fact any reason at all, it's a bit worrying!.

Try to overcome it naturally first!. Your mum needs to help you - NOT by trying to convince you to get pills (the easy way out), but by giving you all the love, help and support you badly need!. I wish you luck!. And PLEASE - promise me, no pills!.

It's all about finding the right pill and dose for the right person!. It sometimes take a while to find the right one for you!. And as for you mom, I think she would just be relieved that you are doing the best thing for yourself!. You need to do what you feel is right and have faith that it will all work out!. Obviously your mom cares and wants what best for you, she won't and shouldn't be ashamed of you!. Taking the first step in getting help it a huge deal!. There isn't anything to be ashamed of!. There are plenty of us that are going through similar situations!. You're far from alone in this!. Keep your head up and do what you can for yourself!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

YES!!!!! one very important thing!.!.!.!.!.never just stop taking them!. no matter what!. i can not express the importance of that enough!. but yes they work!. maybe youll try one and wont like it, maybe the dside effects from another wont be worth it!.!.!.point is dont give up, work with the doctor and you will there is a light at the end of the tunnel!. never go on a very high dose though!. tell the doctor you want to start out with a very low dose and work up from there!. also any drug they give you will have a whole list of possible side effects!.!.!.read up on them, then forget them!. doesnt mean they will happen to you!. the only time they turn bad is if you decide to quit taking them!. you will need to be commited to them!. and i suggest being over the age of 18!. under 18 i suggest going to a child psychologist and working it out fromthere!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

My mom tried to get me on stuff all my life!. I wanted my highs to be high and my lows to be low!. No Zombie mode for me!. BUT it's not like that!. It was once explained to me like this!. If you have to go down the path in your own little boat, do you want to be sitting in the boat calm and relaxed, enjoying the world as it goes by!? Of do you want to be standing up, confused, making waves and end up at with your boat over and you all wet!? Hope that makes sense!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

Id like to really know myself!. Im 17 and ive felt depressed for over 8 years!. Yes for all you math wizards that is since i was in 3d grade!. I know, weird right!? I think im going to the doctors next week!. Sorta like in your case, my biggest fear is my mom!. Im not afraid of her being embaressed but afraid of how she'll start to treat me!. It woudnt surprise me if she put me on suicide watch or somthing if i asked to go!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

Have you tried "Light therapy"!. That is, turn on every light in your room!. Keep things bright!. Stay off of the internet and stop watching T!.V!. and reading the newspapers!. Take up a hobby like building models from scratch w/ Balsa wood!. Play soft music and learn to meditate!. Depression pills work but, there are terrible side effects!. Good luck!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

NO! NO! NO!

I was on them for almost a year before I met my husband, and ended trying to commit suicide!. What they do is make your highs waaaaay high like your super happy and your lows waaaay low and then your in trouble!. Or you sleep all the time! My husband went on them (before we met) after his brother past away and he said he slept nonstop for months on out!. He stopped going to work and kept his doors locked so no one could visit him, he quit showering, started smoking as much as 3 packs and more a day, and was having crazy nightmares!. My sister was on them also tried to commit suicide, stayed on them tried different dosages and types and tried a total of 3 times the last time she was preggers and it killed her baby!. She thought she was straightened out after awhile, and then next thing you know she stabbed a woman! That woman slept w/ her husband, but still she went insane on her and ended up going to prison for it!.

With me and my husband, changing the way we lived, our surroundings, w/ me my social life etc!.!.!. was what really helped!.

But the cure was the Lord Jesus Christ and his saving grace!. I hate to sound like some religious freak or whatever, but all I know is He helped us!. Not doctors, not counselors, not neighbors or family, not even preachers!. Only the Lord and reading His word the true word KJV Bible not these stupid wannabe bibles that misconstrue everything!. If you can't understand and really want to, all you have to do is ask, He will open your mind and heart to understand!. We may not think He hears us or answers us like in old times, but He does and He still surprises us to this day!. I recommend reading the Psalms, Job, or Romans!. KJVWww@Answer-Health@Com

yes they do work, your psychiatrist may try some of them, he will check which one is better for you, but the anti depressors doesn't work right away, you have to wait more than 3 week to start feeling well, and simultaneously take some therapy to keep your mind busy, take care, and good luckWww@Answer-Health@Com

first of all yes, they work, but you need a large dosage, not the crappy recomended dosage!.

try 200mg of zoloft and 30mg of abilify and you will be happy in no time!. however these are prescriptional medications so you will need to speak to a doctor!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

Please see a therapist before you start taking ANY sort of medication!. It is VERY highly recommended that you are in therapy while on medication!. See a therapist first and then you will go further if you need to!. Hope all goes well!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

Regarding: "I know for a fact I can't overcome depression naturally" I wonder how many of the following you have tried, and for how long!.

Check out my previous answer, and give the multidimensional approach to treating depression a trial period of, say 4 - 6 months, and then, if not significantly improved (unlikely) accept the risks, and side effects of medications!.

I KNOW, from experience, how difficult it is, but once you drag yourself out of bed, throw on a dressing gown, and have a little time in the morning light, preferably doing easy stretching exercises, have a shower, a cuppa, and scrambled eggs and possibly bacon!.

These provide a lasting energy boost: no carbohydrates for 2 hrs, or extremely little; a teaspoon of sugar is OK, but Xylitol is preferable, [health food stores] or fruit sugar [fructose, such as "Fruisana", from supermarket sugar aisles] or even a LITTLE honey!. Splash cold water on your face, to revive you, as needed!. No daytime sleeping; only 8 - 9 hrs at night!. Antidepressants work quicker than the following; 2 - 6 weeks, but you may have to adjust dosage, or types, whereas St!. John's wort is effective for most people, and doesn't develop tolerance and the few side effects are rare, and usually not severe!.

It doesn't cause sleeping problems, or weight change, but takes 4 - 6 weeks to become effective!. A recent, independent German double blind study showed it to be as effective as Sertraline (marketed in the USA as Zoloft: a commonly prescribed antidepressant) in cases of major depression, with far fewer side effects, and those were generally better tolerated, with a lower rate of discontinuation!. Unlike antidepressants, where sexual dysfunction is a common side effect, it happens much more rarely with St!. John's wort (I have noticed no effect in this area)!.

A multidimensional approach to treating depression without medication follows!. All except for no!. (7!.) are safe to use with medication, but not St!. John's wort, because of interactions, and it's sensible to check out anything else first with your doctor!.

(1!.) Take 4 Omega 3 fish oil supplements, daily: (certified free of mercury) it is best if consumed with an antioxidant, such as an orange, or grapefruit, or their FRESHLY SQUEEZED juice!. If vitamin E is added, it should be certified as being 100% from natural sources, or it may be synthetic: avoid it!. Also take a vitamin B complex which is certified as being 100% of natural origin; a deficiency in vitamin B9 (folic acid, or folate) is known to cause depression!.

(2!.) Work up slowly to at least 20 minutes minutes of exercise, daily, or 30 - 60 mns, 5 times weekly!. Too much exercise can cause stress, which isn't wanted when dealing with depression!.

(3!.) Occupational therapy (keeping busy allows little time for unproductive introspection, and keeps mental activity out of less desirable areas of the brain)!.

(4!.) Use daily, one of the relaxation methods in sections 2, 2!.c, 2!.i, or 11, and/or yoga, Tai Chi, and/or the EFT, in sections 2!.q, 2!.o, and section 53, at http://www!.ezy-build!.net!.nz/~shaneris whichever works best for you!.

(5!.) Initially, at least, some form of counselling, preferably either Cognitive Behavio(u)ral Therapy, or Rational Emotive Behavio(u)ral Therapy!.

(6!.) Maintain a mood chart, and daily activities schedule, as per page R, in section 2, at ezy build!.

(7!.) As options, if desired, either a known, effective herbal remedy, such as St!. John's wort, (the strength varies, but the supplier should be using a standardised hypericin content, so follow the directions) or supplements, such as SAMe, or Inositol (from vitamin and health food stores, some supermarkets, or mail order: view section 55)!.

Also, 80% of people in the Western world have low magnesium levels, and these are known to cause depression & anxiety!. Try the magnesium supplement types shown in http://www!.real-depression-help!.com/ Some of these will be available in pharmacies, or supermarkets!.

An improvement can be noticed in as little as a week, if a deficiency is the cause!. Also, iodised salt is much preferable to regular salt (one of the treatments in books on depression is iodine drops)!.

This is a shortened version of the much more comprehensive post, which may be seen on page R, in section 2 of ezy build, above, but to gain full appreciation, it's really best to view the whole of section 2!.Www@Answer-Health@Com
