Gaining weight on paxil. Why?!
Question: Gaining weight on paxil!. Why!?
I started taking paxil in Nov of last year and since i have gained 10lbs and it seems that i am still gaining slowly!. I haven't noticed that i eat anymore than i did, i was just wondering if anyone else has had problems gaining weight on paxil !?!? Does anyone know why Paxil and some other SSRI's make people put on weight!? ThanksWww@Answer-Health@Com

Well 10 pounds is not bad at all!. Some people gain weight on certain kinds of psychotropic drugs, including anti-depressants, such as Paxil!. If this is really bothering you, speak to your doctor about trying another anti-depressant, such as Prozac which may not make you gain weight!. Everybodies body chemistry is different and responds differently to meds!. One may take Paxil and lose weight, while the other gains 50 pounds on it and so forth!. If you feel safe enough to stop the Paxil and letting the other drug kick in then go for it!. If you feel Paxil greatly helps you, you may want to reconsider and accept the 10 pounds,Www@Answer-Health@Com
Sure, it happens to just about everybody!. First of all, if you look at the pharmacology of your medicine you will most likely find that it is meant for short term treatments only!.
All of the medications are formulated as mineral salts, which cause the body to retain water, and hence gain weight, so changing to another one will have the same effect as far as your weight!.
You need to really do your best to work as hard as you can to learn to manage your behavior patterns well enough so that you can get off the medication!. Self-directed behavior modification can be permanent, Paxil should not be!.Www@Answer-Health@Com
