Going to my GP....Help....?!

Question: Going to my GP!.!.!.!.Help!.!.!.!.!?
Hi Im 16 and on Tuesday Im going to my GP!.
For the last year and a half(at least) I have been feeling depressed!.I have the following problems:
-I feel sad and worthless all the time
-I hate leaving the house and I avoid all my friends!.
-I overeat all the time and Ive put on 20 pounds
-I have insomnia-I get to sleep around 5/6 am and wake up about 3pm!.
-Im always tired and restless
-I never have any enthusiasm for anything
-I have bad concentration
-I have been cutting myself(not very seriously) for a few months
-I think about suicide and dying but I dont want to kill myself (hope that makes sense)

The doctor Im going to is sort of old fashioned and Im afraid he will mistake my cutting for attempted suicide!.
Are the things I listed enough to be sectioned!?
Will he put me on antidepressants!?
People have told me that I will have to get a physical exam too!.
Is this true!? What will he do!? Can I refuse it!?
And will he tell my parents that I self harm(Im from Ireland btw)Www@Answer-Health@Com

First of all, I hope you know that you are truly NOT worthless, and that although things seem grim right now, it WILL get better! I have had my fair share of depression and have taken anti-depressants as well!. The physicians I have seen (mind you, I live in the US) usually just go ahead and prescribe something based on you, your health, age, etc!. Then they may or may not encourage you to seek care from a counselor or psychologist!. Even if they don't, you should go anyway!. Especially at your age, it can something you get to do for yourself, someone you can talk to about anything and everything, who can help you sort all of those confusing feelings out!.

Don't be scared!.!.!.and I agree with the previous response, you should talk to your parents!. I have a 15 yr old daughter and even tho she knows she can come to me with anything, she often doesn't!. I know sometimes as a teenager you are afraid that your parents will be angry, that they may blame you, etc!. But understand that is almost assuredly NOT the case!. They only want the best for you!.

The very best of luck to you-Www@Answer-Health@Com

They will prescribe you a depression medicine!. Please know what your taking!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

they shouldn't prescribe antidepressants until you've seen a psychiatrist/counsellor!. though yes the law may be different in ireland to uk!. if they do a physical examination, you should have an escort there, a nurse may be asked into the room while he does it!. it's nothing to worry about!. good luck with the doctor and hang in there!Www@Answer-Health@Com

He should do a physical (which isn't bad at all), he may start you on anti-depressants but he should refer you to a psychiatrist who will manage your problems (your GP may just wait and let the psychiatrist deal with the meds)!. Not sure about the legal side of things there, but since you are harming yourself I think he has a right to tell your parents, which they should know!. I have a 12 yr old daughter, I can't imagine why teenagers don't want to tell their parents, all your parents want to do is get you help if there is a problem!. Will they get upset!? Yes, they probably will, but it's more confusion & sadness than anything else!. Try talking to your parents before the appointment, and be extremely honest about it with the doctor!. Good luck!Www@Answer-Health@Com

If your GP *DOES* prescribe something, then run like stink!. Seriously!. *NO* half-decent GP should be prescribing to someone your age!.

Most ADs are evil!. Truly, truly evil (did you not see that documentary Panorama did vis a vis the links between Seroxat (paroxetine) and teenage suicide!?)

The main reason GPs prescribe 'em is because they're incredibly cheap (a 28-tab pack of Ciprimil (citalopram) 20mg (a month's supply) is
