I have been on Prozac for 5 yrs now!.!.!.and I thank God for it! I had tried many!.!.but none did anything!.!.then I got a new doctor and he explained Prozac to me, how it increases the serotonin in the brain!.!.if it is needed!. Well it takes about 2 weeks for it to really take effect!.!.!.I take it as prescribed!.!.I see my doctor every 3 months and I also have 5mg valium because of panic attacks!. Barbi I have to tell you I suffered in silence since I was a teen, then one night the depression and panic attack hit me so hard!.!.I was in the ER! So please see a good doctor and give any med he or she gives you 2 to 3 weeks!.!.if you see no improvment let the doctor know, so the dosage or med can be changed!.!.!.I know what you are going thru!.!.!.u can talk to me anytime!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

Paxil or Celexa worked for me, but I am an adult!. It is not recommended for children or teens!. Antidepressants work differently on each individual, according to body chemistry, age, etc!. Talk to your doctor!. He/ she is the only person who can give you the correct medicine and knows the side effects and the one that is age appropriate!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

I had taken Buspar!. I am currently taking slexia I am probably spelling this wrong!.
I have bipolar so I take the slexia and also something at night that starts with an R!.

Something I also had done that worked wonders for me before the diagnosis of bipolar was take St!. Johns Wart!.
I had also have had good results with Multi Complex B vitamins too!. It helped me get up in the morning and that was when I only was taking Multi Complex B vitamins!.

Good luck,
Laura
p!.s!. I also have learned by trial and error I must continue to take the medicine even if I don't want to do so!. I also have forgotten to take them too!.So I have to place them where I will recall but everyone is so different on how to remember taking medicine!. Once I had been busy talking and taking medicine I had taken more than one!. I felt so sick to my stomach so I must be cognitively aware of what I am doing and taking here!.
I also have a chart I am using a internet friend emailed it to me and it's been a God send when I do it that is !!!

I also try to not stay up way too late and to get rest and drink more water and less caffeine and I really like to have mt!.dew so I sometimes I purchase soda that is caffeine free!.
I am trying to get self to not drink so much soda here!.

Many hugs,
Laura

p!.s!. also what helped me was to learn that I am ok I have fought the good fight on depression but I find myself thinking I will be ok without medication and not give it a fair shake so if you are prescribed medicine continue to take it on a regular basis and also include therapy and ex cerise too!. Don't ever give up hope!!!Www@Answer-Health@Com

For me it is a combination of medications!. I am taking Lithium, Seroquel, Trazodone, the generic for Zoloft!. It took my doctor and me along time to find this combination!.

It works for me, it may not work for you!. Every ones body, mind, chemical imbalance and mental illness is different!. Your doctor doesn't know what will work for you, until he prescribes some for you and he sees how they work!. Some times I felt like a guinea pig!. Untill we found the right medicines, and it was sooo sooo worth it!.

Here are some tips to getting the right medicine:

1!. Be honest with your doctor about how you feel both mentaly and physically!. He or she is not a mind reader and does not know how you are feeling by looking at you!.

2!. Take your medicine as prescribed by the doctor!.

3!. Ask the doctor about all possible side effects of the medication and which ones are severe and which ones aren't!.

4!. If you are having a problem with your medication call or run up to your pharmacy!. The pharmacist has a ton of knowledge and he or she will be glad to help you!. They're a lot cheeper too!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

I've been taking Lexapro for over a year and a half - and it's helped me a lot!.

I also see a therapist, to find and deal with the causes for the depression - that has helped me more than I ever dreamed it could!.

With that, I'm feeling so much better!.!.!. It's amazing the difference!.Www@Answer-Health@Com
