BIPOLAR DISORDER: Do YOU honestly believe this terrible genetic disease CAN be b!

Question: BIPOLAR DISORDER: Do YOU honestly believe this terrible genetic disease CAN be beaten!?
Answers:
I consider myself a person that WAS bipolar!. I don't know if I can honestly say I am cured, but I do believe it can be managed!.
I don't see my psychiatrist anymore and he took me off lithium!. I was on it for 7 years!. It worked great for me and I responded well to the medication!. I never took anything else!.
I am into the healthy living thing there!. I exercise and lift weights!. I bicycle about 20 miles a week!. I cook my own food and I get plenty of fruit and vegetables!. I drink my water and in the summer I live on sports drinks to keep myself hydrated!. Some times I do too much, but I don't know that it becomes an issue over how bipolar I am!. We all are human and we all have the capacity to over do it!. It's not exclusive to me or my condition!.
At one time, I read a lot of pop psychology books out of the library and I kept going back over and over again for months!. I learned a lot!. I think it helped me get over the idea of self-pity and the way sadness can make a person feel like they are alone and no one cares!. I have learned to name anything that upsets me and to quickly put it in its place!. I don't have to feel down and out if I don't want to!. I learned that lots of people have the same issues and feelings that I do!. I am not alone!.
Most important, I have had to find other things to do!. I have gained hobbies!. I like to cook Chinese food and I love the internet!. I have developed a fondness for puzzles and games and I recently bought a Rubik's Cube and learned how to complete it!. Whereas before, I was terrified of challenges and saw myself as a person that easily gave up, now I will be patient and try again!.
I'm not the same person I was when I was diagnosed!. I am learning to overcome my self-doubt!. Sometimes I still struggle with it, but I know I have days where I do much better!. I was a very self-involved person!. Now, I'm looking to help others!. I think I can be useful and I want to do all I can!. I like being me much better and I am kinder to myself!.
I am so unlike my former self, I think I am no longer bipolar!. Maybe I still am, but it doesn't define me and I am not its victim!. Some days, I think I am capable of enjoying things!. That's pretty exciting!. I like that!. I want to do that more often!. But I am not beaten and I am not sick!. I think I am just me!. Let others accept me warts and all!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

YES, I do believe this disease can be beaten!. I work in mental health and have made good friends with people who have bi polar and schizophrenia!.

The key is to take the medication your doctor has prescribed whilst attending Cognitive Behavioural Therapy!.

CBT is good at getting the individual to recognise negative thoughts and turning them into positives before any negativity has the chance to spiral out of control causing illness!.

A good supportive network is also very beneficial!. keep in touch with you doctors, Psychiatrist or community mental health workers - in times of need, they are lifesavers!.

Last of all!. Be kind to yourself!. Take the holistic approach to life!.

Don't smoke or drink, take regular exercise and treat yourself often to the good things in life!.

Not in my lifetime!. Maybe in yours!.

If you can find the right combination of meds, you can live a normal life!. That is more than can be had with some chronic illnesses!. Therapy, living healthy, etc all improve the quality of life further!.

As for beating the disease!.!.!. they have yet to find the genes!. Without those, the real chase has yet to begin!. The understanding of what goes on in the brain is very rudimentary with theories and some science backing various systems such as ion channels and neurotransmitters including GABA, but no clear understanding what kick starts what or how they relate to each other!. Many years are left before this mystery unfolds and in all probability the answers will only yield better treatments, not cures!.

PS - I don't believe anyone has been cured!. I believe ppl are misdiagnosed or go years between episodes!.

~I have bipolar and would love to pull it out, stuff it in a punching bag, and beat the helllll out of it!Www@Answer-Health@Com

i wouldn't class it as genetic my mother has it and none of my siblings or aunts or uncles have the disorder but it can be controlled by medication you can ask your doctor for advice and there are books in the library that explain exactly what bipolar is i read some when my mother was diagnosed so i could understand it a bit more

i think you should read some maybe they will help you understand the disorder a bit better!

MG's back up has some good points about quality of life for managing Bipolar!. Personally, I think that what he says has a lot of bearing as to how I have managed amd maintained a lot more level!.

Beaten, no!.!.!.!.!.!.!.!. managed, yes!.

Don't play the victim of it!. Love your self ( we all know how hard that one is!! :) )
Surround yourself with like minded people and be honest with them and yourself!.

( i am quietly having a chuckle at what i am writing!. So easy to give advice, quite different to use it ) :DWww@Answer-Health@Com

Only, if you can get the person to take their medication !.I knew someone that was fine for ages , you wouldnt know there was anything wrong with her , but she stopped taking her tablets saying she was fine and eventually she killed herself!. Living a husband and 3 children!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

It can not be cured!. It can however be managed!. Finding the right treatment and continuing with treatment takes a lot of work, but it doesnt have to always affect your life!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

NO- IT CAN NOT BE BEATEN!. I HAVE HAD IT SINCE I WAS IN MY TEENS NOW IN MY MID FORTIES AND I SEE A CHANGE FOR THE BETTER!. BUT, I CAN HONESTLY SAY WITH OUT MEDS I WOULD EITHER BE IN PRISON OR DEAD!. NOW THAT I HAVE A DAUGHTER I AM CAREFUL WITH ALL THAT I DO!. I NEVER MISS A DAY WITHOUT MEDS!. I CARRY THEM WITH ME NO MATTER WHERE I GO!. AS I SAID IT CAN NOT BE BEATEN SO DO NOT LET IT BEAT YOU!.Www@Answer-Health@Com
