I'm sorry to hear about your past traumatic experience, and your recurring nightmares!. I have had recurring nightmares, too, about a different kind of trauma that happened to me 2 years ago!. It's no fun!.

Maybe it would help if you found someone you trust that would just sit and listen to you share your feelings!. If you don't have a close friend who could do this for you, then maybe you could enlist the help of a pastor or a counselor!. I'll bet you would feel better if you just got it out of your system by sharing it with someone who could empathize with you!.

My recurring nightmares lasted about a year, and eased off a few months ago as the bad memories have gradually grown more distant!.

Thanks for sharing your question!. I hope it's a start toward real healing!. Good luck!Www@Answer-Health@Com

That's very sad to hear, both that you were assaulted and that you're having nightmares!.

Try practicing what's called lucid dreaming!. You can train yourself to wake up just enough to control the dream and steer it in a different direction!.

Also, what about doing positive imagery!? Practice imagining that someone is about to attack you!. Visualize yourself in different ways gaining power over the situation and preventing the attack!. For example, you could imagine confronting the attacker with questions about why he is doing this!. Or an army of giants stands alongside you and mercilessly beats the attacker to the ground!. Or you grab the attacker and crumple him up like a piece of paper and throw it into the river, where it floats away for good!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

Recent stress or anxiety of any kind could have caused the memories that you mentally buried in the back of your brain long ago!. Many experts agree that the best way to destroy your problems is to confront them head on, which, in theory, is easier said than done!. However, if you confront your problems, in even the most minute ways possible, it could tackle your problem!. Go to the place where you were assaulted, and let you brain recollect the day it happened, all of the physical and mental you were put through, and soak it up!. You have to assure your brain and your psych that (so cliche, but very true) there is nothing to fear, but fear itself!. And, ultimately, no one can help you solve your problems but you!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

i think maybe its a good thing you had that dream and you shouldnt be afraid to go to sleep becuase having dreams like that is actually helpful!. im going through something similar and i recently learned that your brain processes things when you dream, it has something to do with REM (rapid eye movement)!. basically when something "traumatic" happens it can kind of get "frozen" in your brain!. and REM (which occurs when youre dreaming) helps to "unfreeze" that!.

its the same with me, something happened a long time ago and its just starting to hit me now, and im not exactly sure why that happens sometimes but i think the dreams are a good sign because that means your brain is processesing what happened and it will help you get over it, or deal with it better!.

and one other thing, this is a little less relevent and i wont really get into it but if things keep getting worse and its really bothering you, you might want to see a therapist or look up this thing called "EMDR therapy"!. it might help!?Www@Answer-Health@Com

The way I got a grip on my nightmares was by programming them out of my head when I laid down to go to sleep!. I did this by replacing any negative or fearful thoughts I was having with positive ones!. I would create a scene in my mind and visualize it until it became as real as it could be, and I would stay focused on it until I fell asleep!. Eventually, my dream patterns changed, and I was actually able to choose what I wanted to dream, and exclude what I did not want to dream!. No kidding!.!.!. it worked!Www@Answer-Health@Com

usually stress brings on those feelings, and they come out in your subconscious, aka your dreams!. try to not think about it,which is so much easier said than done!. before you go to bed read a comedy or romance novel, not the evening news or suspense novel which can deal with violence or crime!. listen to some soothing music online or from your collection!. try to do deep breathing exercises before bed and clear your mind of any stresses you have, everything will be alright!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

You can try to watch a really funny or positive movie before going to bed!. That way those are the last thoughts on your mind!. Also, try to replace the first thought with a positive one if you think about it before you go to bed!. Go and talk to a counselor (if you can)!. Prayer always helps too!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

You should see a social worker to talk about it!. Also, if you're thinking about it while trying to fall asleep, it's been shown that you could say NO! out loud or mentally imagine yourself wrapping up the thought and throwing it away!. Feel better;0)Www@Answer-Health@Com

Before e you go to bed read Psalms from the bible!. Psalms has a high energetic frequency and if you read it out loud for a while before going to sleep you will entrain the mind to that frequency!. this should help!.Www@Answer-Health@Com
