I am a cutter and do other things to harm myself when I ask for help my therapist will ask me what do I want her to do!. I don't know what I want her to do but just to stop me which I know she can't because I have my own choice!. So what would be your suggestion that I say and want for her to do!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

Answers:
Why don't you ask her to try to find out with you WHY you cut and what you GAIN from it!.

Then try to find out together with her if there are SUBSTITUTES to getting 'that' what you want from cutting, so you can learn to do these Different Things rather than cutting!. To replace it for a safer way of unloading your emotions!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

To help you to find some other way to release the tension besides something destructive!. Maybe instead of cutting, you can get a towel and tear it apart or pull on it hard, or do 10 or 20 push-ups which will be tortuous, but not destructive to your body!.

Help you to think more rationally when the feeling comes of cutting yourself--that this is destructive and you want to lead a ife where you make things better for yourself and others and not worse!.

To help you find another focus when you get focused on cutting--maybe something where you can benefit the world and make something good happen for someone who could use your help!.

You can waste a lot of time and money in therapy, when sometimes you can be your own best therapist!. I think if you rely to much on therapy to cure you, you will be spending a lot of money and time---try more to help yourself--maybe you could ask her to help you help yourself instead of relying too much on her to solve this problem!. We make choices in life--try to determine what it would take you to stop that behavior!. At the end of your life, what do you want to be remembered for as a person on this earth!?Www@Answer-Health@Com

Sounds as if there is either a misunderstanding or the therapist is frustrated and trying to be very firm with you!. It does not make sense for a therapist to offer no help to you in this way!. You can get this kind of answer from anyone off the street that cares nothing for you!. There must be a misunderstanding here!. If the therapist did say this to you, then there must have been something else included in this statement that you either did not here or was accidental left out by the therapist!. This question is a good question though!!! for example the therapist may have asked you this in order to get your mind going!. Thinking about deep reasons why you hurt yourself!. This kinda question is thought provoking!. The therapist can then use what you say in response to build upon!. To form more questions and come up with a good solution!.

So! Ask the therapist the same question again!. See what the answer is!. Another question you can ask is Way the therapist asked you that question!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

I would tell her that I want her to do her job or refer you to someone who can!. She needs to address/discover why you are cutting (typically to make physical an underlying inner pain) and counsel you for that!. You need to be provided with alternatives to cutting (which aren't typically as effective as just dealing with the cause) at the very least!. She should not be asking you, but rather assessing you to see which theory/method is going to be the most applicable or guessing and trying different ones!. Maybe she is not good for cutters (some just aren't!.!.!.I had one tell a client to remove all knives from the house to prevent her daughter's cutting, but a cutter knows that you can and will use anything to even slowing saw into the skin)!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

"I want you to help me find something to do that will get that "energy" out of me, but not physically hurt me!."

Y'know, I used to do that!. Lately, things haven't been great for me and I've found myself having the desire to do that again!. But this time, I would close my eyes and visualize myself doing it!. Try to understand why I feel this way!. Try to FEEL that first cut!.

And after I needed to get out that "energy" through visualizing it, I would imagine me doing the whole thing backwards, like a rewinding tape-- backwards and faster!. -- It's a Neuro-Linguistic Programming thing (look it up, it's very interesting)--- and visualize all the way to the thing that triggered it!.

It feel better and have the desire less!.

But I hope you get past this!. It'll always kinda be with you, but you'll realize how strong you are when you've made that final decision of "I'm never doing this again"Www@Answer-Health@Com

perhaps she could work with you to find alternatives, eg

- an activity that you can do instead to take your mind off cutting
- a network of people that you can call if you need to and know they'll be there for you
- alternatives to cutting - eg ice (causes numbing/pain but doesn't leave a scar) or even drawing with a red pen instead of cutting can help some people

she could also supply you with sterile equipment and cleaning things so if you do cut yourself, it's as safe as possible and you know how to look after the injuriesWww@Answer-Health@Com

"Hold me while I sob"!. But I guess the doctor would feel threatened by that request even though it might be what you need to do!.
Have a look at http://www!.redirectingselftherapy!.com for assistance!.
Nurture yourself, even though the pain you are avoiding is worse that the pain you're inflicting on yourself it is a way to grow and become your true self again!. Good luck!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

This cannot be answered by anyone other then yourself as you will never be healed!.

only you know the answer!.Www@Answer-Health@Com
