Question: I feel scared for my safety even inside my home!?
Couple of years ago, someone broke into my house while I was home alone!. It was traumatic for me and ever since, I cannot feel at ease even at home!. When I hear the slightest unfamiliar noise, I freak out!. Is there anyway I can stop feeling so anxious!?

P!.s: What is the best security to have for your home!? My house has 4 doors and it worries me!.!. the more doors I have!.!. the more chance of them being broken into!?

pp!.s: I bought a fake security camera, for like $5, will that make it seem like there's something super expensive in my house though, or will it deter burglars!?

I'm ALWAYS on edge, please help!.!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

How are you with a handgun!?

Okay, so maybe you don't want to arm yourself to the teeth, and considering how nervous you are, maybe gun ownership isn't such a good idea - it would be tragic if a UPS delivery guy got plugged for no reason!.

About all I can tell you is, burglary is not that common, and as well, burglarizing houses while somenone is home is even more rare!.

A camera, fake or not, will tend to discourage many burglars more than it will encourage any to think "valuables"!.

More doors does not automatically equate with more chances to be burglarized!. If you tend to leave doors unlocked, then it might, but I'm going to guess you're pretty good about not doing that!. I would, however, have deadbolt locks on all of them, as some old striker type locks can be easily credit-carded (some have a two-piece bolt that prevents that trick)!.

Windows are actually the entry point of choice for many burglars - in some cases they're much easier to get past than a locked door, so be sure your windows are secured!.

In some locations, police departments have programs to reduce burglaries via Neighborhood Watch and via security audits - they'll send someone out to check windows and doors and make recommendations!. If your local PD doesn't do this, you may need to bring in a locksmith to survey the situation!.

In any case, IMO, you are worrying WAY more than is reasonable, so STOP THAT! RELAX! The odds are overwhelmingly in your favor that you're going to be okay!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

I had my house broken into a couple years ago - and you're right, it sure is scary!. You feel kind of violated in a way!.!.!.

The fake cameras are a good idea, I installed double-bolt locks on the doors, and also put decals on the door windows that say "This Premises Protected By 24-Hour Monitored Security System", I forget where I got those!.

You can only do so much, but the more the better!. It'll hopefully deter the criminals and make them go away!.

if you don't feel at ease try training at boxing or karate or some form of self protection this will help give u confidence when you are alone!. moveing houses could help because mabey ur in a bad neighbourhood or you keep re-liveing the experience because u live in the same house you got robbed inWww@Answer-Health@Com

well i get that feeling alot too like on a stormy night but i like to keep some or all of the lights in the house on and put on the TV or some music even when im sleeping you know to make it seem like that theres someone home!.

I hope that helped if not just keep in mind that neighbors are always aroundWww@Answer-Health@Com

This happened to my sister in law at 12!. She is 24 and still a little uneasy about being home alone, even after counseling!.

Get a dog, put out a big dog house and a dog run, big bowl of water

Ask a cop, houses with dogs are less likely to be broken into!. Dogs have good hearing and are a great deterrent !.!.!.and good company too!Www@Answer-Health@Com

you have a valid fear, i suggest you get a security system, also, you may want to see a therapist about it, they should be able to help, you are somewhat better than me though, i guess, every time i go into my back yard, i carry a pocket knife!.!.!.!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

Do you live by yourself!? Having someone around (like a family member or spouse) should help you calm down!.

You say you've been traumatic ever since a couple of years ago!? You should see a therapist or a doctor to prescibe meds for you!. It'll make things easier on yourself!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

i find that my 70kg rottweiler sleeping under my bed lets me sleep very soundly without fear of intruders!.!. hes very cuddly too which is a bonus!.!. maybe if you had a dog that could eat intruders you might feel a little better!.!. i recommed it!.!. half my friends wont visit it works that wellWww@Answer-Health@Com

An inside-the-house dog is the best security!. Even the cutest and/or laziest of dogs will bark like mad if someone unfamiliar tries to come in or is even outside!. I've never known a dog not to be the best "watch dog!." At least that would give you some time to get prepared should an intruder ever come in again!. As far as preparation, you might want to consider purchasing a firearm and most importantly, learning how to use it - get a permit/license, take classes, learn gun safety!. If you are against guns, consider getting several bear-strength containers of mace/pepper spray (they are huge - almost like fire extinquishers)!. They'll knock an intruder for a spin!. Better yet, get a taser - they look like a gun - and you point it and pull the trigger and 2 prong things with a wires connected shoot out fast and stick in the intruder!. They then deliver a jolt of electricity at whatever you point it at - it won't kill the intruder, but it definitely will immobilize them!. You can also get a home security system with sirens, lights and alarms and all from ADT or whatever is in your area - for $25/month or something they will remotely monitor your house for you and call the police should an alarm go off!. If none of this works for you, consider moving into a condo or something where there are alot more people around you at all times to help you should something happen!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

I would advise to see a doctor about this- they can give you anti-anxitey drugs and counselling!.

However, there's also things you can do!.

Relax more! Easier said then done, I know!. Take up yoga, outside of the house, and eat heathily!. Buy a security system if it makes YOU feel more secure, but you need to feel better, too- not just feel fake better because you have the system!.

There's nothing wrong with low level medication if the doctor agrees you need it!. I was on anti anxiety and anti psychotic pills for a while, and I came off them fine and am off them fine now!. I'm not talking major tranqulizers- just minor pills to help if the doctor agrees it would help, alongside relaxation therapy- personal meditation, yoga- and counselling, coupled with healthy eating and living!.Www@Answer-Health@Com
