Could I possibly be bipolar?!

Question: Could I possibly be bipolar!?
I was diagnosed with major depression about eight months ago and was taking anti-depressants until about six weeks ago, when my psychiatrist prescribed mood stabilizers along with the same anti-depressants (dosage was not changed)!. The anti-depressants didn't help much, but I have been feeling better since I have been taking these mood stabilizers!. Over the past couple of weeks, however, I haven't been able to sleep at all except for short naps at odd hours during the day and I have a lot of energy at night!. I also have impulses to go drive around or call my friends in the middle of the night and I feel happier than I have been in a long time!. I still get really depressed occassionally but it never lasts as long as it usually does and I quickly feel happy again!. I have always felt depressed in my life but when I was a kid my parents and doctor thought I was ADHD but I was never diagnosed!.!.!.
Does anyone have any ideas!?Www@Answer-Health@Com

Sounds like it!. It also sounds like you need to call your psychiatrist and get your medication adjusted!. Most likely, you need to be taken off the antidepressant!. Many people with bipolar cannot take them without problems!. Some mood stabilizers like Lamictal can be activating!. Many with bipolar cannot take it without another stabilizer to manage the high side!. If you are on this med plus an antidepressant, it's not surprising that some hypomania could appear!. Similarly, if you are on an antidepressant and only on a very low dose of a mood stabilizer the response would not be unusual!. I'm not saying to blame the meds!. If your depression is such that you need something to survive, then it's moot!. And, more importantly, if you are bipolar, it was only a matter of time anyway!.

Note, I would not respond quite like this if you had not said that you were on stabilizers and had a history of problems with antidepressants, which is a sign of soft bipolar!. That plus your behavior makes it sound very much like a hypomanic episode!. Call your doctor!.

This is one of the best sites on the web for a description of soft bipolar/bipolar II!. There also is a description of depression with anxiety!. You may or may not see yourself in here!. Either way, it's worth a read!.

The best thing to do would be to talk to your doctor about this!. It sounds like the mood medications are causing the energy bursts and not your natural chemicals!. It might take some time for your body to get used to the medications, but if it persists (and you ask your doctor) they might just put you on a sleeping pill at night!.

If it doesn't conflict with your prescriptions (ask a Doctor or pharmacist) try taking an OTC sleep aid at night!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

I don't know much about bipolar disorder other than you have drastic ups and downs instead of just being content!. I also know that schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, and depression are often misdiagnosed because the three have most of the same symptoms and very few noticeable differences!. A lot of people are diagnosed with depression when they are actually bipolar!. The worst part is, the depression medication will worsen the bipolar symptoms!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

this could very easily be either a side effect of the anti depressants and this side affect may be treated by the mood stabilizers although depending on the strength it may change the amount of depression or anti depression that you get!. tell your doctor about these problems for I am not an expert this is the best way you may also want to tell your psychietrist!!

thank you for your time and effort in reading my thoughts

If this all started after taking the medications i would say that the odd behaviour and the not being able to sleep is a direct cause of the medications!. If not I am not sure, bi-polar is a very tricky thing and is often over diagnosed!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

i don't believe in being bi-polar!.
i think the reason people could be like mad about something is cause they will get all pissed and blow their top off but then a few seconds later they will feel really bad and realize they were being very mean and act all sweet and apologize!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

Do you have racy thoughts during short episodes!? And by this I mean it comes clear out of the blue and not like you at most times!. If so, then you probably are bipolar!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

i dont think that you're bipolar!. if these things only began in the last couple of weeks, it might be a side effect to the medication!. talk to your doctor about it!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

The symptoms of a manic episode often include elevated mood (feeling extremely happy), being extremely irritable and anxious, talking too fast and too much, and having an unusual increase in energy and a reduced need for sleep!. It's also very common for someone to act impulsively during a manic episode, and engage in behaviors that are risky or that they later regret, like spending sprees!. And in over half of all manic episodes, people are troubled by delusions or hallucinations!. For example, they may think they have a relationship with someone famous, claim to be an expert in an area they really know nothing about, feel paranoid (unusually fearful), or hear voices that are not there!.

The symptoms of a depressive episode often include an overwhelming feeling of emptiness or sadness, a lack of energy, a loss of interest in things, trouble concentrating, changes in normal sleep or appetite, and/or thoughts of dying or suicide!.

A mixed episode includes symptoms that are both manic and depressive!.

My teacher also told me that you tend to drive away when you have that disorder!. Maybe you start to develop it!.
Check with your doctor!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

Manic Depression is a wide variety of things!.!.!.!.!.!.it is alot like being Bi-Polar!.!.!.!.!.but they are completely separate diseases!. I have them both!. The impulses and such are secondary effects of the anti-depressants!. It's normal!. The insomnia is also!. See, Bi-Polar meds put you to sleep!. They give the the antidepressants to bring your mood up!.!.!.!.and the mood stabilizers to make it consistent!. So that you are comfortable and don't feel "too happy"

If you were Bi-Polar!.!.!.!.!.!.!.and not on medications for it!.!.!.!.!.!.believe me!.!.!.!.!.!.you'd have way worse problems!. I used to have episodes where my body went into shock, with out my medication my body becomes irregular and does insane things!.!.!.!.!.!.It looks like I'm having seizures!. I don't think you seem bi-polar!.!.!.!.!.but I'm not a Physician either!.!.!.!.!.!.!.talk to the Doc!.

Or try taking Tylenol PM's they always seemed to help me!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

it is a major sign, i would bring it up!. I'm bipolar type 2 and i can be that way!.!.!. infact i was medically discharged from the corps cause of it!.!.!.!. i never sleep more thn 5 or six hours, and when most people are run down im still going!.!.!.!. usually lasts a few weeks!. Then i normalize, and from there it can get very bad!.!.!. cant even tell you how many bottles of souther comfort 100 proof i go through!.!.!.!.

The main thing is not to let it control you!.!.!. im on 6 months with no episode, i take no meds!.!.!. i have trained myself to control it and i will not let it ruin my life again!.

Good luck
