Answers:
Social anxiety affects an array of aspects of an individual's life!. Anxiety produces an avoidance factor (i!.e!. "I am terrified to fly, so I will never board a plane")

It is the same with social anxiety!. People avoid social places, people, crowds, etc!.!.!.and by doing this, they assure themselves of reduced anxiety!.

The problem with this is people tend to become extremely isolated and the avoidance leads to depression and emotional disturbance because the individual is constantly alone and not interacting with people!.

This fear can drive people to upsetting emotions so it's very important they work with a therapist/counselor to work on these social skills!.

The great news is that there are so many ways to work on social anxiety!. (homework if you will) small steps such as having a conversation with someone at the check out in the grocery store!.

These little assignments will gradually build social confidence and reduce anxiety!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

"Social anxiety is a term used to describe an experience of anxiety (emotional discomfort, fear, apprehension or worry) regarding social situations and being evaluated by other people!. It occurs early in childhood as a normal part of social functioning!. People vary in how often they experience social anxiety or in which kinds of situations!. It can be related to shyness or other emotional or temperamental factors, but its exact nature is still the subject of research and theory!. Extreme social anxiety can be disabling and may be diagnosed as social anxiety disorder (social phobia), although some use the terms interchangeably!."

scared instead of angry or sad instead of happy is more like negative affect!.!.!.meaning your reaction to the situation is not appropriate and it's more prominent among women!. negative affect is associated with depression!. however, comorbidity is common among anxiety and mood disorders (an individual suffers from 2 or more disorders)!.

As opposed to shyness, social anxiety is often accompanied by physical discomfort: Shortness of breath, upset stomach, sweating, shaking, even changes in hearing or vision!. Emotional changes include feeling under pressure, feeling judged!. Social anxiety is not a biological disorder, but caused by environmental factors!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

Good answers so far, I thought I'd personalize it!. My 9 yo has social anxiety, and I think the emotions depend on the person!. Different people may react to the anxiety with fear, which could lead to anger!.

For my daughter, she was selectively mute before the age of six!. She could speak sometimes, but out in public, at my parent's houses, if new people were AT our house, she just could not speak!. She would try, and her heart rate would go up to 120, she'd start shaking, gasping for breath, etc!. We never let it advance further than that, but she has said that she feels nauseous, like screaming just so she could say anything!.

In preK, she did not say a word at school until after spring break!. Then she whispered 'help' to the teacher when she needed to go to the bathroom!. Kindergarten was a little better, she had the same teacher, same kids, same classroom!.

She usually does NOT respond to people she does not know!. She's such a friend happy girl, brilliantly intelligent, doing sixth grade work at the age of nine!. She has five or six friends that she is very close to, she has spent the night at their houses, but she's known two of them her entire life, their families are practically family!. The other ones she's known for four years and she has just started speaking with them in the past two months!. lol!

We took her out of public school, and it has helped a lot because instead of being forced to deal with so many strangers and unexpected things, she can mature on her own level and she's working out of her shell on her own!. She'll always come across as shy, but that's okay!. Lots of people are shy, and they are successful!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

yes to all of the above and it feels like you cant breathe or a tightening in your stomach!.Www@Answer-Health@Com
