My father could not find work!. There was no work!. Food and other commodities were cheap, but with no income, many folks could not buy!. My parents had a bunch of kids!. Many small town stores would give you credit for your purchases, but would expect you to pay them back on pay day!. At one point, the family grocery man kept giving credit to my parents, until the bill was quite high!. I suppose he felt sorry for us!. But it got to the point where he could no longer do so, and he informed my parents that they could no longer buy groceries there until the bill was paid!. My mother had a wealthy aunt who lived in the same town, and when the aunt heard of the plight of my parents, she went to the grocery store and paid the bill!. This, then, enabled my folks to start buying food again!.

I remember my grandpa would re-sole shoes!. Folks wore their shoes until the soles had holes in them!. Grampa would turn those shoes upside down on some sort of shoe form, and would cut and fit and paste new soles on the bottoms, so the shoes could be worn longer!.

My mother often took a man's wool coat, cut it apart, and made coats for her children out of that one coat!. We had one pair of shoes each!. One good outfit, and one to play or go to school in!.

Times were very tough!.!.!.!.!.!.!.the present generation has no clue!.Www@Answer-Health@Com
