Does anyone know anything about schizoaffective disorder?!

Question: Does anyone know anything about schizoaffective disorder!?
I have been having hallucinations for a few years!. At first I didnt think anything of them!. They werent very severe!. I use to have conversations with them!.Now I have them all the time and they are very troublesome!. I see rats chasing me, they try to eat me!. I cant close my eyes sometimes because they are all I see!. Then I have these 2 people constantly talking to me and to each other!. They tell me to do all kinda things like kill people and go places!. They even send me messages through the tv!. To ignore them I usually have to blast music!. I have been diagnosed with major depression, conversion disorder, and dysthymic disorder!. In school I was labeled as emotionally handicap!. I also have an extreme social phobia!.

Im not sure if my condition would be major depression with psychosis or schizoaffective disorder!. It seems to me like my hallucinations are mood-incongruent, but Im no expert!. Can anyone offer any help!? I would really appreciate!. These people are getting harder to deal withWww@Answer-Health@Com

Answers:
Did you tell the person who diagnosed you about the hallucinations!? Schioaffective disorder is a combination of schizophrenia and a mood disorder where you meet the first criteria of schizophrenia which is:

Two (or more) of the following, each present for a significant period of time during a 1-month period (or less if significantly treated):

1) delusions
2) hallucinations
3) disorganized speech (e!.g!. frequent derailment or incoherence)
4) grossly disorganized or catatonic behavior
5) negative symptoms, i!.e!. affective flattening, alogia (inability to speak) or avolition ("A psychological state characterized by general lack of desire, motivation, and persistence!. It is the reduction, difficulty, or inability to initiate and/or persist in goal-directed behavior; it is quite often mistaken for apparent disinterest!.")

--Only one of the above if the delusions are bizarre or the hallucinations involve two or more voices conversing with one another or one keeping up a running commentary on the person's behavior or thoughts!. (at least for schizophrenia!.)

In addition, the mood episode symptoms must be present for a substantial portion of the total duration of the active and residual periods of the illness!.

However, as the other poster said, the diagnosis is less important than the way you are treated and if the treatment works!. Many people's diagnoses change over time!. It is important that you work with your psychiatrist and/or therapist to find improved ways of coping with your isses!. It is important to take your meds and to learn new coping skills to help you deal with the hallucinations and the depression!.

Good luck!Www@Answer-Health@Com

You need to have an open and honest talk with both your psychiatrist and your therapist!. Bring a list of when you had the hallucinations, what they were, and what your mood was!. Hallucinating while being depressed sounds like depression w/psychosis!. Hallucinating while neither depressed nor manic could be schizoaffective disorder or psychosis disorder or perhaps something else!. The diagnosis is moot!. The treatment is what's important!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

get some medications to trial!. especially since the hallucinations are becoming more vivid and frightening!. It doesn't necessarily matter what the diagnosis is, but how to manage your symptoms better!. Go to the doctorWww@Answer-Health@Com

hullo
from your account it seems that the diagnosis is schizophrenia, other mentioned dignoses are not aplicable to you !. you should be properly treated with anti psychotics to get rid of the auditory hallucinations!.
