How do I get over this fear?!

Question: How do I get over this fear!?
When I was little, I cant remember exactly how old I was but it was some age between 8 and 11, my mum and dad watched Chuckie and I was in the room with them and it scared me loads!. I cried and I was so scared!. I remember the bit very well where he was trying to kill a boy and he stuck a knife in the end of his arm because he had his hand chopped off!.

It scared me of my dolls and I remember throwing them all in the bottom of my cupboard face down and on one of them I tied a ribbon around their eyes!.

Anyways im still too scared to watch it to this day and im now 17! My friends laugh at me and tell me its not scary but im actually too scared to watch it again to see if it is scary! Scary films tend to scare me alot like Them, Black christmas, Dead silence etc!.!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

Hi! thanks for this question, it was a bit of a relief for me! =]

I have exactly the same problem: I watched that scary film (I think it was called "It") when I was 7, it was about a clown who tries to kill a bunch of boys!. I had nightmares for two months, every night, and I was really scared of being alone with the lights off!. I was also scared of the shower, because there's a scene in which the clown comes out of the wastepipe, when the poor kids are showering!.

Now I'm 17 too, and my friends don't really understand the problem!. I mean, they do understand I'm scared, but they think it's something like "OMG OMG, like I'm so scared", a silly thing!. But it's more like a phobia lol!. They try to get me to watch the films, once they convinced me, and it was worse!. I didn't stop being scared, I just had a hell of a bad time!.

My mum also told me I had to get over that fear, but when she saw I just couldn't we both came to a conclusion!. Why do you have to get over it!? Will it ever be strictly necessary for you to watch one!? It's not like you're afraid of taking a plane, or something that can make things difficult for you!. It's just that you don't like a kind of films that make people suffer!. Some people like this kind of thrilling suffering, but you don't!. If you don't like to suffer, don't watch them, it's as simple as that!.

So this is my advice: go watch a light-hearted comedy, or a musical, or whatever film that makes you feel good, and stop worrying about bloody knife-bearing ugly dolls/clowns!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

My two daughters watched that film and another one called Killer Clowns!.!.of course I wasn't aware they watched it as they were very young around 1o and 11 to this day they still say it gives them the creeps thinking about it!.!.!.but they are able to laugh about it!.!.!.if these films have this effect on you then don't watch them no matter what your friends say!.!.!.you may find as you get older this fear will pass!.!.!.and then something else will scare you :)Www@Answer-Health@Com

It would have been a terryfying movie to watch!. I would not watch it then or now because I don't see the point in being scared to that extent!.

It's not your dolls fault, they can't really hurt you and as for the film, it is made up, not real!. So as long as you keep that in mind it should be ok for you!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

some people are more affected by horror movies than others!. I avoid scary movies!. For me they are damaging to my psyche!. I find them really negative!. Real friends know your boundaries and respect them!. I tell people i cannot watch them!. The trailers bother me too!. This is part of knowing your personality and tempermant!. Don't work to get over it!. It's not for you!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

you were obviously to young to watch this type of film, shame on your parents!?, but to late now, lots of people do not like scary films no harm in that just remember it was only a film, not real life, these films are made to make people like you scared that is the objectWww@Answer-Health@Com

i don't like watching scary films, my husband loves them! i just refuse to watch them with him and go n take a long hot bath while he is watching it! its the only way or i wud end up being scared 4 ever more! i much prefer a good comedy!

dont worry about it chick!Www@Answer-Health@Com

Very simple, don't watch them! I'm 30 and exactly the same - I can't watch horror films and if I do I have nightmares, so I avoid them all together!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

Watch it again, it's funny more than anything!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

i had a similar experience as well!.!.but mine was with the movie called!.!.!.IT!.!.by steven king!.!.!.i was afraid n scared just like you!.!.!.but i was actually scared of clowns due to the main character being a clown in this movie!.!.!.any way around about 9 years later i thought hey what the heck with it!.!.!.!.i sat down and i watched!.!.!.n man i was laughing ma head of!.!.!.now being all grown up n mature!.!.!. thinking man i cant believe that i was afraid of this ***** lol!.!.!.!.
oooo man i'm so tired i should really go to bed!.!.!.any way yeah just go 4 it n watch over come ur fear its only a movie in the end of the day

Rowan's idea is quite a good one!. Watch it again!. It hasn't aged well so that may well help!. Also, watch it during the day, with lights on and a friend with you!.

I love horror movies but accept that other's don't!. You don't like 'em!? Don't watch 'em!.!.!.

But I think that watching Child's Play again may help get you over your doll phobia!.

The other thing is to watch them with tongue firmly in cheek!. If you view most of them as "fun" (kind of like riding a roller coaster, it's scary but not going to hurt you), you may see them in a different light!.!.!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

i love watching scary movies, and loves reading stephen kings books!.!.!.!.chucky was a gem as well, lots f fun despite the scary side ! i know its not funny when people laugh about your fears , dont worry its normal that some people are over sensitive about that !

some films really scared me very much such as dead silence, the orphanage!.!.!.!.but one should juste forget that, its just a movie, u should delete from your brain once its finished!.!.!.
if u cant stand dolls because of that movie, it would be nice u try to overcome your fear by seeing more movies and dedramatise it ! if a movie scares me too much, i just watch another joyful , happy movie!.!.!.it always work !!

good luck !Www@Answer-Health@Com
