Requesting meds from my doctor?!

Question: Requesting meds from my doctor!?
I have been having trouble with anxiety my whole life!. For about 30 years I thought it was just something I had to live with - sleepless nights, chewing my nails to the quick, lack of appetite & "nervous" stomach, etc!.!. Recently a friend gave me what she called a nerve pill!. I have since found out that it is called Xanax!. I was amazed by the relief I felt! I could get things done with out the crippling fear of not being able to do them!. Everything seemed to be better!. I have since done research and realized that a lot of people abuse this drug!. I don't want it to get messed up - I feel it helps with a legitimate problem!. I am afraid to just come out and ask my doctor for a prescription for fear that he will think I just want them to abuse!. Does anyone have any advise on how I should bring this up and discuss with my doctor!?Www@Answer-Health@Com

Answers:
First I should mention that you should never take someone else's medication (I know, you've already read that)!.
Secondly, I would be upfront with your doctor about what you are feeling, how long you've been feeling this way, your sleepless nights, ect!.!.!. I suffer with severe anxiety disorder and I am on a combination of medications, I don't have just one that works for me but one that I use for my breakthrough anxiety is Niravam!. This is a faster acting medicine than Xanax or the other meds mentioned so far, but like I said, it is not used as a "typical" daily medicine, just for when the anxiety is so out of control that you need something to break the cycle!. It also helps for my severe panic disorder!. BUT, I would see if your doctor would refer you to a psychiatrist to handle your psychiatric medications, they know these drugs better than your family practioner!. Good luck, I hope you start feeling better soon!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

Xanax should not be your first line of defense!. You should discuss your anxiety etc!. with your doctor!. I would not mention the Xanax!.!.!.!.!.!.There are many meds available!. Xanex is basically used as a back up when your daily meds is not enough and all these meds whether they be Paxil, Zoloft, Effexor, etc, should be combined with therapy!. And remember they are a tool not a cure!. Just because one feels better you should not discontinue taking them - that simply means they are working!. I currently take Effexor daily and Xanex when I need to combined with therapy!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

Xanax rocks but unfortunately, not to be the downer, if your doctor is going to give you this drug it's only going to be for a short period of time!. Just ask him, I straight out asked my doctor for meds, he might not necessarily give them to you though!.!.!.that's why the made the job occupation of someone being a 'psychiatrist'!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

NEVER take a drug that is not prescribed to you!. Not ever!.

Talk to your doctor about your symptoms and let him know that you are concerned about yourself!. Ask him what options you have and go from there!.

Lastly, this may sound silly but studies have shown that Yoga can help people with anxiety!. Maybe try it out with your friend for a while!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

Xanax is a powerful medication!. I would just explain my symptoms to the Dr!. and request the drug!. He might prescribe therapy as well!.!.!.!.!.Good Luck and feel better!!!!Www@Answer-Health@Com

Tell him the truth! Tell him you haven't brought this up before because you thought it was hopeless, and it was just how your life was destined to be, and you tried one (you might as well admit it) and you'd like to try it for a few weeks and see how you do on it!. Just because some people abuse meds doesn't mean everyone does!. Ask him if you can have a 1 mo!. prescription and then see him at the end of the month and tell him if you've had any serious side effects!. It may turn out to be a very liberating decision!. If he doesn't like Xanax, then ask him what he normally prescribes for terrible, debilitating anxiety!. I wish you all the best!.Www@Answer-Health@Com
