Is it worth getting help or should I carry on n hope it goes away?!

Question: Is it worth getting help or should I carry on n hope it goes away!?
For a long time now (I'm talking years) I've had periods where I simply can't do anything!. I don't want to get out of bed, I can't tidy up, talk to people, and feel like locking myself away!.
It feels like theres a dark cloud washing over my heart, blocking out any form of happiness I should otherwise be feeling!.
I recently got out of an abusive relationship and although it took everythign there was left in me to do it, I felt so much stronger and confident than I ever hadl!.
I've since met my now partner and he truely is the most amzing person there ever was!. He seems to understand everything I've been through and is trying to get me to go to the doctors about how I feel!. Sometimes I'm OK!. I can be happy n it was like that for a few months!. Now I can feel that cloud coming back and I'm sick of it!. I want to be able to feel that I'm in love with him, not jus kno it!. Should I go to the doctors!? Is there really anything they can do, or is it jus who I am!?!.!.!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

Hi

Please go and talk to your GP, your partner is right, you need and deserve to get help!.

Understanding depression:

the information is easy to read and understand!.

I'm sure your partner will go with you to the appointment if you would like him to, so that he can support you!. My advice would be to write down anything and everything that is worrying you and take along what you have written here!. If you are too anxious or you forget anything then use what you have taken and if all else fails, ask the Dr to read it!.

Try and be as honest and open as you can with the Dr, that way he/she can assess what is the best course of treatment for you!.

Congratulations on changing things in your life for the better, you found the strength and courage to get out of a bad relationship, so I have every confidence that you can help yourself through this especially with the right support!.

Hope this helps!.

Take care and good luck!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

You don't deserve to have this 'dark cloud washing over' you, visiting your GP will allow you to receive correct and professional advice and help that will hopefully lift that depressive mood!.

I must also praise you for leaving the abusive relationship, it must have been a very difficult step, but something you had to take in order to move forward with your life!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

It sounds as if you have depression, go and see your GP post haste! you may not like the idea of medication but a six month course of anti-depressants may help you alot!.

May sound silly but I recently started going to a gym, largely to help my daughter lose weight and it is quite satisfying with a swim afterwards!.!.!.!.

You really need to get some medical advise asap

The black cloud is the feeling of depression which can be treated by medical intervention, so it would seem logical to go to a doctor!.

Only way to determin if this is an illness is to tell the doctors your symptoms!.

seems your problems are emotionally based-re: your new relationship-would advise you take it `slow`-as it comes!.
don`t `think` too much re: is this going to be ok etc
what`ll happen will happen!.
we all get periods you describe-worrying about them will only create another and make things worse!. ero`day !.Www@Answer-Health@Com

go to the doctor and tell them how you feel they will be able to help youWww@Answer-Health@Com

I'd definitely recommend getting help!. You must be thinking that help is possible otherwise you wouldn't have asked the question!. Life is great so make the most of it!. See a doctor who can recommend suitable treatment!. That might be medication or it might be counselling/cognitive behaviour therapy/hypnotherapy or similar!. The therapy routes will help you to learn techniques to deal with the depression and think about things in a different way so that it doesn't have as much of an effect on you!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

It's definately worth getting help for depression!. Depression is very treatable with therapy, medications, or a combination of the two!.
You have a physical illness, depression is not just in your mind!. It is a chemical imbalance that occurs in the brain!. There are medications that can help correct it!.

Just because you are in love doesn't mean the depression will go away!.

I would suggest you see your GP first to rule out any physical problems that might be causing depression!. But if you are having bouts of it regularly for many years, it seems as though it is pretty classic chemical depression!.Www@Answer-Health@Com
